About this deal

If you love the movie you have to buy the book. The story is the same, of course, but some scenes have additional dialogue and description. There is more Jareth, more details about Sarah, and longer scenes between Jareth and Sarah. Labyrinth 30th Anniversary Edition 4K Blu-ray". Blu-ray.com. I could go about the many connections and mythemes in this movie, but that would bore you all. Most of you like the movie anyway. We came here to talk about the book. So, is it worth the read? However, the main characters are curiously flat and blank in the novelization. The book emphasizes the adventure and the developing friendship among Sarah's three amigos. The movie is driven by the strong personalities of the man and the girl and the tension between them. I wonder if maybe Smith had to finish this before the leads were cast: he had the puppets ready to base the supporting cast off of, but needed to leave Jareth and Sarah vague to make room for their not-yet-cast actors. The film made its DVD premiere in 1999 in the US and has since been re-released on DVD in 2003, 2007, and 2016. All DVD releases of the film feature the Inside the Labyrinth documentary as an extra. The 2003 re-release was described as a collector's edition and featured a set of exclusive collectors cards that featured concept art by Brian Froud. [61] The 2007 release was promoted as an Anniversary Edition and featured a commentary by Brian Froud and two newly produced making-of documentaries, "Journey Through the Labyrinth: Kingdom of Characters" and "Journey Through the Labyrinth: The Quest for Goblin City", which featured interviews with producer George Lucas, choreographer Gates McFadden of Star Trek fame (listed as Cheryl McFadden [62]), and Brian Henson. To access art is to access darkness, and to dwell in childhood is to dwell in a place of death, the potential deepest darkness. For those who are parents, the shadow of death is always with us. When my son was born after 24 hours of labor, the midwives informed us that I had suffered a partial placental abruption. Had the placenta fully detached too soon, my baby likely would have suffered brain damage, and I could have bled to death. Consider the terror new parents are meant to feel abut SIDS, and the alarming and ever-changing information of how parents should do the most basic of tasks: put their baby to sleep. a b Lipper, Hal (June 27, 1986). Get it now, and treat yourself!

While in the park with her dog Merlin, 16-year-old Sarah recites from a book titled The Labyrinth, but is unable to remember the last line. Realizing that she is late to babysit her infant half-brother Toby, she rushes home and is confronted by her stepmother who leaves for dinner with Sarah's father. Frustrated that Toby was given her treasured teddy bear, Lancelot, and by his constant crying, Sarah rashly wishes that Toby be taken away by the goblins from her book. Toby disappears and the Goblin King Jareth appears, offering Sarah her dreams in exchange for the baby. She refuses, instantly regretting her wish. Jareth reluctantly gives Sarah 13 hours to solve his labyrinth and find Toby before he is turned into a goblin forever. Sarah meets a dwarf named Hoggle who aids her to enter the labyrinth. She has trouble finding her way at first and meets a talking worm who inadvertently sends her in the wrong direction.a b Henson, Jim (May 5, 1985). Bottom line is that I occupy that territorial field where I feel like I know more about it than anyone else and don't talk about my precious Labyrinth because you have no power over me. It's a condition.

[122] Pinball [ edit ] I throw the Fireys in, not because they are impor Labyrinth has become a cult film. [100] Brian Henson remembered his father Jim Henson as being aware that Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal both had cult followings by the time of his death in 1990, saying that "he was able to see all that and know that it was appreciated". [101] Academic Andrea Wright wrote that Labyrinth has managed to maintain audience popularity long after its initial release to a greater extent than The Dark Crystal. [56] Since 1997, an annual two-day event called the " Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball", in which revelers attend dressed in costumes inspired by the film, has been held in various locations, including San Diego, Hollywood, and Los Angeles. [102] Labyrinth has developed a significant internet fan following since the early 1990s, and, as of 2021, FanFiction.Net hosts more than 10,000 stories in its Labyrinth section. Accessed 15 September 2010.Hoggle, Ludo, and Sir Didymus are just as lovable, as is the worm. Ambrosius didn't come off as strongly as he does in the books. And as Labyrinth shows, there’s particular danger in being a teenage girl . Connelly’s Sarah is 16, and Jareth, we learn, doesn’t just want a new baby to be reborn as a goblin, which is disturbing enough. He wants Sarah. He wants her to love him, and his longing increases, becoming more and more creepily clear, as the movie progresses. There’s both a paternal appeal and stranger-danger in Jareth, a confusing and unnerving quality given Bowie’s alleged statutory rape of two young fans in the ’70s (reports that only intensified after the singer’s death earlier this year). Frankly, it makes Labyrinth difficult at times to rewatch as an adult. Henson, Jim (June 26, 1985). "6/26/1985 – '(filming Labyrinth-) Escher;". Jim Henson's Red Book.
