And here we are with A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire, whiskies representative of the Houses Stark and Targaryen. I thought cool, why not? Albeit the fact that the series ended a while ago, chances are that these two will sell to adoring fans, especially as a limited release. Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire is inspired by the fierce dragons of Daenerys Targaryen, showcasing peated whisky from the Islay-based Caol Ila distillery. Bottled at 40.8%, this whisky has a more full-bodied flavor, with a hint of spice, notes of subtle red fruit, and sweet smoke. Game of Thrones | Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire Tasting Notes

Much like Winterfell’s positioning in Westeros, Song of Ice is crafted using whiskies from Clynelish, one of Scotland’s most northern and iconic distilleries, lending a fresher crisp to the Scotch. The whisky’s delicate flavour is green and grassy, with notes of vanilla and tropical fruit akin to the fruit from the orchards of Dorne. Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice features single malts from Clynelish, one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries, and exudes a crisp, clean taste like the unforgiving force of ice that shapes mountains and stops rivers. The new blend has an ABV of 40.2% and the bottle design evokes an icy setting with frosted blue and gray colors inspired by the North, known for its cold winters and frozen landscapes. Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire is rich and spicy, boasting flavors of subtle smoke from the peated malts of the Caol Ila distillery with an ABV of 40.8%. Inspired by the dragons of House Targaryen, feared for their fire breathing, the bottle design evokes a fiery setting with deep-red colors.

A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire are designed as a pair; you’re ideally supposed to sample these two spirits together to get a sense of how the House of Walker can blend its component whiskies into wildly different finished products. It is with great excitement that we announce that the new variants are available in South Africa. A continued collaboration with HBO, these limited edition whiskies are inspired by the iconic and powerful houses of Westeros – House Stark and House Targaryen – and are successors to the White Walker by Johnnie Walker limited edition blend launched in 2019.

With Water: Water seems to mute the aroma, initially, so I let it sit for a few minutes. The aroma becomes crisper – lime seltzer? – but no other new notes, and the whole is still muted. The palate seems thinner, but the finish is livelier, again with a lime or lime-peel note. Water is not necessary here.

Johnnie Walker Song of Ice is a blended Scotch whisky inspired by these wild dwellers of the North.

Vintage:

Palate: Medium bodied, verging on thin. Coconut for sure, along with standards like hay, sugar-cookie, light honey, and – you guessed it – nail-polish remover. Song of Ice is a slight tweak to the generic Johnnie Walker formula. Since the goal was to play off of the success of HBO’s Game of Thrones series, I doubt the flavor of the whisky had much to do with it. Rumor suggests this version has a little less peated scotch and a little more Clynelish. For an excellent rundown on the contents of various Johnnie blends, see Driscoll’s blog. Appearance: Burnt orange, earl grey tea. The bottle is frosted and features a picture of a dire wolf. Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire are two new Scotch whisky blends that honor the enduring legacy of Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones | Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire Whether in conflict or harmony, this is a tale of two great houses represented by two ancient creatures. One is a house descended from the First Men. Rulers of the North and builders of the wall, they thrive in the icy-cold climate of the Direwolf. The other, a noble family of Valyrian descent and the first royal house of the Seven Kingdoms. Fire courses through their veins and is made flesh in the form of their dragons.
