About this deal

Located in the town of Kilbeggan, on the Brosna River, Kilbeggan Distillery is the oldest licensed distillery in Ireland. It was established in 1757, when Matthew MacManus obtained a license to produce whiskey.

The distillery was founded in 1757 by Matthew MacManus, who may have distilled elsewhere before founding Kilbeggan. [2] [3] Although information about the early years of the distillery is scarce, documentation suggests that in its early years the distillery operated with a 232 gallon still, and an annual output of 1,500 gallons. As the journey concludes, the finish maintains a medium duration, featuring the contributions of cinnamon and citrus. Produced at the New Midleton Distillery east of Cork, Midleton Very Rare is matured for twelve to twenty years in ex-bourbon American Oak barrels and is one of the most expensive whiskeys regularly produced by Irish Distillers. It’s no secret that we’re pretty big on whiskey here in Ireland. Uisce Beatha, the Irish for whiskey, means ‘water of life’, which says it all really. People claim that Ireland is the birthplace of whiskey and while I’m no expert on the matter, I’ll go along with that. Just don’t bring up the subject if there are any Scots in your company, ok! The best Irish whiskey for: Those looking for a good Irish whiskey to drink straight as it’s smooth, sweet and doesn’t have a harsh finishThose with more experienced palates will find it smooth and easy to nurse. The flavor brings a honeyed, malty aspect out in the sweetness, and adds a peppery, woody note that is just a tad astringent. The finish is a light, short one, and continues on that dry, woody note.
