About this deal

Lights Around, Sihana Shalaj photographed by Paolo Roversi in a Comme des Garçons special, styled by Robbie Spencer This was a delightful read and I’ve marked a few recipes to make as well. A visually stunning publication with interesting stories – a fabulous way to pass those lazy summer days (now I need to get my hands on other copies of LUNCHEON!). Luncheon Magazine is a new food magazine from London (UK). The magazine is published in a format of 270 x 380 mm. The Magazine is a style and culture publication that invites old and new friends of all generations and cultural experiences to share their views, life and work over lunch. From simple jam sandwiches in the park to home-cooked feasts, to hours spent in chic restaurants, the conversation and visual content is inspired by this midday treat created by a top-table of writers, photographers and artists. Content On the cover : Roast turkey á la Cinderella by Tomi Ungerer, from his book ‘Zeralda’s Ogre’ published in 1970 I grew up in the house where my father had his studio (I’d come home from school and if the red light was on above the door I had to be absolutely silent). Every time he’d finish shooting, he’d call me in to meet his subject. They would all sit at the kitchen table, my father, the assistants, collaborators and that day’s actor or actress.

Architect Sumayya Vally and fashion designer Roksanda Ilinčić conversation, photographs by Chieska Fortune Smith I meet Frances in her magazine’s tiny office in the heart of Shoreditch, in London’s East End. After saying hello to Thomas Persson, the magazine’s other founder, Frances suggests we do the interview while having lunch at Rochelle Canteen, the restaurant just downstairs, in true Luncheon style.Antenne Books is a distributor for independent publishers. Established in London in 2010, Antenne Books distributes publications on art, photography, design, illustration, theory, writing, fashion and culture. A wild garlic pesto made with (very) locally foraged ingredients (remember in some countries people were only allowed to travel a certain distance away from their homes) The Chromatic Diet, photographs by Deo Suveera and Pamela Dimitrov, creative direction Benjamin Grillon and words by Rosanna McLaughlin

On the second cover, model Divine Mugisha is photographed by Nadine Ijewere, wearing Maison Alaïa styled by Luncheon’s fashion director-at-large Nell Kalonji, taken from the story in the magazineCouture. And on the third cover, Paolo Roversi photographs the Autumn/Winter collection by Comme des Garçons, worn by model Sihana Shalaj, styled by Robbie Spencer. Rei Kawakubo givesLuncheona special and irreverent quote about her work.Frances recently created Luncheon, a magazine that after just three issues has gained a cult following. “It’s a style and culture magazine, which invites friends from different generations and places to exchange ideas, to talk about their life and work. All the better if it’s during a meal, whether it’s a simple sandwich in the park or the sophisticated fare of a good restaurant”. I remember seeing this child in a playground. He looked so confident, like he was ready for the world. A young boy riding off into the unknown, the markings on the ground like latitude lines. I was once a little boy like that. In the first issue, for example, the artist Francesco Clemente shares his opinion of La grande bouffe by the painter Salman Toor, while Manolo Blahnik and Erdem exchange anecdotes while lunching in the garden at the Chiltern Firehouse. In the second issue actors Lily James and Dominic West joke around after calling room service at Claridge’s, and the young designer Simone Rocha talks about herself while sitting in front of plates of dim sum.

Sitting around a long table, with diners of every age and status, seated maybe for six hours straight even, with conversations that intertwine and develop freely. And perhaps with lots of children playing all around. On the cover: Lois Blamire photographed by Tim Gutt, styling by Léopold Duchemin, set design by Shona Heath, 2022There are three covers of Luncheon no.11. The first cover features an illustration by Tomi Ungerer taken from his book 'Zeralda's Ogre' published in 1970. Inside the magazine his works run through the issue with an introduction by his daughter Aria Ungerer. The second cover is a photograph by Nadine Ijewere, styled by Nathan Klein taken from their story 'Materials, Matter and Minerals'. The third cover by Paolo Roversi is a photograph of a coffee pot, gifted to him by and once belonging to the artist June Leaf and her husband Robert Frank. Inside is a portfolio of photographs of June by Paolo and a conversation between the two friends. Photograph: Othello De’Souza-Hartley Othello De’Souza-Hartley ‘When I warned the miners I’d be nude, they said they used to shower with 500 men’ Inspirations selected by the collective Ghetto Gastro with a conversation of explanations to the images between co-founder Jon Gray and friend and stylist Nell Kalonji Each contributor has selected a food or community organisation for which they would like to raise awareness, and running through the issue are advertisements created by artists for the London-based community Poot It In Yer Bag, founded by Elaine Chambers.
