About this deal

Although the title characters are a witch and a cat, like the popular 1970s children's book heroes Meg and Mog, "they are emphatically not the same". [4] In Hanselmann's stories, the pair are "depressed drug users struggling with life", [4] and are usually accompanied by two other regular characters, the uptight Owl and the highly volatile Werewolf Jones. [4]

It is shown multiple times that, in the most bizarre and twisted way, Jones genuinely loves his friends. But he doesn't seem to realize that his actions hurt or upset the people around him. Ax-Crazy: While Jones isn't exactly high-functioning, Susan is somehow even more violent and unstable than him.

Mogg

star rating for the product (boosted immeasurably by the included flexi disc recording!!!) (2.7-3, due to noted and understandable scamming) with a 5 star in appreciation and enjoyment…if that makes any sense. The strips are intricately drawn and painstakingly watercoloured, while the narratives are a gloomy insight into the lives of suburban down-and-outs. Reading... Hanselmann evokes conflicting emotions; the characters are hilarious, yet moments of desperation and true sadness emerge from the bong smoke." — William Stanforth - Broadsheet During "Ram Raids," Jaxon shows interest in grabbing a chemistry set while his dad robs a retail outlet. I started making an effort to present as female in press shots. I like seeing myself "all dolled up" in amongst a bunch of beer swilling dude-bros, presenting a totally different public image. it's interesting and thrilling.

Well Done, Son" Guy: Both Jaxon and Diesel show hints of being this in many earlier strips. It eventually becomes a major plot point in "Crisis Zone," as their mutual desire for parental approval influences their behavior in different ways (with Jaxon viewing Owl as a surrogate father figure and resolving to become a better person than his dad, and Diesel becoming more destructive and manipulative). If there’s one criticism it’s that the stories are pretty much (appropriately?) one note - Horse Mania go to a gig, get wasted, play their horrible music, get booed off the stage, repeat. There’s more to the stories to add variety to them but that’s broadly the predictable trajectory of the book. Took a Level in Badass: Owl becomes a lot more authoritative and confident in "Crisis Zone," where he starts standing up to Werewolf Jones' idiotic and obnoxious behavior for a change. Jaxon also undergoes this, as he eventually gathers the courage to call out his scumbag dad and break free of his malignant influence. Addled Addict: She has much more severe substance abuse problems than Megg. She's prescribed Methadone to deal with her opioid habit. Throughout the series, it is alluded to that Owl has had a large number of sexual partners and he frequently makes trips to the clinic to treat his STDs. [13] While his personality frequently causes him to come into conflict with Werewolf Jones, he has already had sex with him while high and gave him pubic lice (crabs). [14]

Megg

Equal-Opportunity Evil: For all of his vile behavior, Werewolf Jones is at least accepting of Booger's transgender identity. It's worth noting partly because Jones knew Booger since well before her transition, implying he has no reservations about befriending LGBT folks (and it'd be hypocritical if he did, given his own bisexuality). Of course, that could also just be a result of his desire for any attention and companionship he can come by. Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Megg is the size of an average human woman, while Mogg is a realistically sized cat. Mogg occasionally reveals that he's incredibly insecure about this. Once at his birthday he was taken to WW's house and was beaten and raped by him, Megg and Mogg. [11] They later try to make it up to him by buying him an ounce of weed and the video game Sword of Battle III. [12] It isn’t a bad book - I was engaged by most of the stories and rarely bored, though that was in part because I was expecting some crazy, unpredictable twist to happen and most of the stories just end rather than go anywhere inspired.

None of Owl's friends like him very much. They see him as an annoying wet blanket and are openly malicious towards him. It's shown that they only let him into their group during high school, out of pity for him. [1] Most comics have them, but especially Mogg and Werewolf Jones, abusing him in some fashion. At the end, he writes that this book took a year to make - this was his 2018 - and 3764 work hours. That’s 72 hours a week - every week. That’s just insane. But the dedication paid off. You can see how good a creator he is for having put in that amount of time. What does Malcolm Gladwell say about outliers - 10,000 hours of practice to become a master of something? Hanselmann’s definitely surpassed that at this point creating his four books. Bad Gateway is a showcase of what someone at the top of their game looks like. Megg also eventually gives one to Werewolf Jones after she catches him and Mike spying on her topless in the pool. He's apathetic to the bizarre things that happen around him.Kavorka Man: In spite of his dorky, unappealing personality and rampant substance abuse, Owl is constantly having sex. However, it's not portrayed as something admirable, as he never forms any meaningful relationships and he's contracted numerous venereal diseases. He's attracted to Megg but she's not interested, so he constantly seeks out shallow flings with other women to fill the void.

Flight: The first time he's seen officially flying is on Crisis Zone, which is not canon. He also does it in the end of Megahex, however that is merely a visual representation of the freedom he feels upon removing himself from the abusive friendship he has allowed himself to be in for most of his adult life. Simon has planned to reveal Owl's flight ability in the main canon's future but has decided to just do it in Crisis Zone instead. [8] It's implied that he can also do it in the main timeline. Depraved Bisexual: Just about every adult character in the cast is a bona fide libertine. Werewolf Jones' takes this trope to an extreme that would fluster De Sade.Hypocrite: After learning of Owl's sexual habits, Megg, Mogg, and Werewolf Jones chastise him for being a "slut." This in spite of all of them being pretty sexed-up and debased themselves. Continuing in the alt comix tradition of crossing any and all lines--what lines?! Do you see any lines here?!-- Simon Hanselmann produces probably the most offensive volume yet of his drunken stoner Megg & Mogg series. Mogg is out of town, though, so we are left with the character who represents the absolute bottom of the barrel, Werewolf Jones. Megg and Werewolf Jones are a noise band, Horse Mania, the worst band in the world! The very point here is to make you cringe as the lyrics are horrible, the way they treat fellow bands if horrible. They are terrible. And so it should have been no surprise that, once again, Hanselmann offers up more than the wrapping suggests. There's plenty of Owl abuse, plenty of drug use, plenty of absolutely vile words shared between so-called "friends", but so too is there a deep, deep analysis of character and the dynamics between. It's easy to think of Werewolf Jones as a deadbeat dad with psychopathic/sociopahtic tendencies, because . . . he's a deadbeat dad with psychopathic/sociopathic tendencies. And it's to forget that there are other sides to his character, because his abuse of Owl and the world around him is just so relentless. But in one particular storyline, he and Megg are alone, playing music together. And there's a sweetness. A kind care and concern that you rarely see from either character. And it's nice: as nice as MegaHex can be, at least.
