About this deal

November 2011 Comic Book Sales Figures". comichron.com. The Comics Chronicles . Retrieved 2017-07-08. De todo lo que he leído de Garth Ennis, Punisher MAX es definitivamente lo mejor. No hay duda. En esta serie Ennis es violento pero mesurado, cruel pero directo, la violencia no se siente exagerada, es lo que es y al mismo tiempo mezcla un sentimiento de vacío y una depresión clara en las narraciones de primera persona de Punisher. La narrativa y los diálogos están bien pensados y vemos facetas del personaje interesantes. Ennis se siente en control, auténtico pero mesurado no demasiado dramático. The volume then closes with three separate, slightly longer, one-shots (all very clear five stars pieces). First out is Punisher: The Tyger, with art by John Severin. Here Ennis allows us a look into Frank Castle's teenage years and explores the possibility that maybe, just maybe, it was not just his experiences in the Vietnam War, and the murder of his family, which turned Frank Castle into the Punisher. Again, Ennis manages to do this, adding to the character mythology rather than muddling or lessening it. I was actually quite surprised by how much I enjoyed this one-shot, especially after the extreme high ending of the official run. PUNISHERMAX #12". Comic Book Roundup. This is followed by the arc that ends the official run, Valley Forge, Valley Forge (#55-60), drawn yet again by Goran Parlov (who, once more, does a tremendous job). Following upon the events in Long Cold Dark, this arc pulls in all the loose plot threads and subplots of Ennis' entire run (including the Born mini series, which opened the first of these complete collections), and delivers in an absolutely stunning way. Another very clear five stars piece to close this truly epic run.

PUNISHERMAX #9". Comic Book Roundup. Archived from the original on 2017-08-12 . Retrieved 2017-07-08. Frank escapes prison and goes into his final confrontation with Wilson Fisk a.k.a. the Kingpin of Crime, and his new bodyguard, Elektra. Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.Now the last six issues in the collection "Kitchen Irish" drawn by Leanardo Fernandez is the wekest of the three stories here but still class A Punisher. Politically charged in a long-term dispute between the Irish and British, and Frank wants to Punish them all because they bombed a restaurant too soon and killed lots of people. Three factions, one Punisher. Plus an ally or two from his vietnam days. Writer Nathan Edmondson and artist Mitch Gerads took over creative duties for this new Punisher series that lasted 20 issues and saw Frank Castle leave New York City for Los Angeles. At the same time as Punisher Max, Frank Castle 616’s story continued in mini-series and one-shots, written by Peter Milligan, David Lapham, Daniel Way, and more. I don’t want to be super dramatic like everyone else in this thread, acting like this is the end of the series and the next three volumes don’t exist. But the fantastic character study that Garth brought to this run will be sorely missed. Whoever writes the next couple of arcs has seriously large, bloody shoes to fill.

The book is in three distinct sections - Frank Castle's time during his hellish third tour in Vietnam; shady CIA operatives attempting to recruit Castle during his particularly bloody war on NY and NJ-area mafioso; and then Castle, with assistance from an old British colleague, taking on NY's usually warring Irish-American criminal families / gangs that have now uneasily united for a common goal.

Barracuda actually takes the spotlight in the first four issues of this book. The thing is, Barracuda is a fun character, but by himself? not as much. Still, the mini-series is entertaining enough and builds towards the next arc which is a million times better with the final showdown between Punisher and Barracuda. Then the next arc is Punisher dealing with the Military in a interesting way, and while overly long and unneeded letters from soldiers plotline was there, it still hit some good emotional moments. The last two stories are Punisher tying up loose ends on the people who killed his family, which is fantastic. Then there's Punisher The End, taken place in the future and it's pretty cheesy and not really all that interesting. PUNISHERMAX #13". Comic Book Roundup. Archived from the original on 2017-08-12 . Retrieved 2017-07-08. This is the conclusion to one of the most consistently good and rewarding comic book runs I've read. It brings the Punisher and Barracuda to a final showdown filled with blood and bullets suited to their characters and even further explores the toll that the need for and the presence of the Punisher can take. The book provides a suitable bookend to the series with the story "Valley Forge, Valley Forge," which meditates again on the war that created the Punisher, and the effect that it can have beyond that. The book also ends with one-shot stories that look into various key times in Frank Castle's life, including Frank as an old Punisher still carrying out his mission in a dying world.

Created by Gerry Conway, John Romita Sr., and Ross Andru, The Punisher is a Marvel anti-hero who made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #129 in February 1974. At the time, he was just a bloodthirsty vigilante hired to make Spider-Man’s life miserable. Punisher distinguished himself from the other characters by having no objection to killing people, something that superheroes don’t do. And he was determined to kill Spidey, wanted for the apparent murder of Norman Osborn. PUNISHERMAX #2". Comic Book Roundup. Archived from the original on 2017-08-12 . Retrieved 2017-07-08. Punisher Max: Complete collection vol 2 continues Garth Ennis' take on the character with no holds barred. You've got three stories all 5-6 issues each.

Where to start reading The Punisher comics?

Garth Ennis' final entries under the Punisher MAX series, collecting: Barracuda MAX, Long Cold Dark, Valley Forge Valley Forge, The Tyger, The Cell, The End. These stories are all brilliant on their own, but they also function well as essential components of a larger, expertly crafted narrative, and they flow very well together. What we are getting is a cohesive portrait of a complex and fascinating, fully fleshed character. Collects Dark Reign: The List – Punisher #1, Dark Wolverine #88-89, Punisher/Franken-Castle #1-21, Punisher (2009) Annual #01, Punisher: In The Blood #1-5 Variety, tight plotting, recurring, well-written supporting characters (The Punisher being a very dour, not exactly talkative individual, needs a strong supporting cast to keep it interesting) and, above all, a great understanding of the character is what makes this series truly phenomenal. The brutal, R-rated violence doesn't hurt of course. It's how The Punisher should be done, after all. It fits perfectly. This is a review for Ennis' entire Punisher MAX series. I won't cover future volumes individually, because of time restraints*
