About this deal

Measurements are compliant with latest speaker research into what can predict the speaker preference and is standardized in CEA/CTA-2034 ANSI specifications. Likewise listening tests are performed per research that shows mono listening is much more revealing of differences between speakers than stereo or multichannel. The sound certainly did impress but not in a wow this is something special kind of way. It’s just a competent well-rounded speaker that does a lot right and does very little to offend. The market is hot right now in this price category but also in this sub-category of well-rounded do-anything speakers.

Moving the BR02s closer to room boundaries will increase bass output but too close will make them sound muddy. They are definitely not “bookshelf” speakers, they need to be out into the room to work their magic. Triangle offers stands suitable for use with the BR02. Acoustic Panels and Treatments: Your room is as important as your stereo equipment so acoustic treatments goes a long way in improving the overall performance. Small, but high excursion woofer playing deep bass - these sorts of drivers tend to be very inefficient (more like 75-80 dB at 1W/1m than the 89 dB for your Triangle speakers). In that case, it can take a lot of amplifier power to get the speaker to play loud and this can heat up the voice coil. The tweeter of the Borea range is equipped with a next-generation system called EFS (Efficient Flow System). Size of a speaker can sometimes become an important decision factor due to space constraints or in some cases purely for esthetic reasons. In this section, we are going to compare Triangle Borea BR03's and Triangle Borea BR02's external dimensions. Triangle Borea BR03 has external dimensions of 380.0 x 206.0 x 314.0mm ( 14.9 x 8.1 x 12.3inch) whereas Triangle Borea BR02 has external dimensions of 310.0 x 176.0 x 274.0mm ( 12.2 x 6.9 x 10.7inch) .

I ran the speakers for about 150 hours connected to an ancient Rotel receiver streaming various styles of music. Component break-in, as I keep harping on about, is essential to divining the true performance of any audio product. I have found that 50 hours is the absolute minimum required but I like to get past the 100-hour mark before commencing serious listening. I set the BR02s up on stands in my listening room with the door remaining open. The one thing I noticed from the adjacent workshop was that at times the BR02s sounded like larger speakers. Sounding in no way like the Spendor D9s that customarily inhabit this room, but larger than the BR02s diminutive size would suggest. Does this observation mean much with regards to audio performance? Not likely, but I don’t notice this phenomenon with all small speakers.

What We Dig

If you’re looking for a small speaker that punches hard, you need look no further than the Triangle Borea BR02. The designers extensively brace the large cabinets to cut down on distortion caused by internal vibrations. They also use a foam gasket where the 6-inch cellulose bass driver meets the bracing to absorb vibrations coming from the transducer’s movement.

The twin-pronged diffuser appears to be pinching the silk dome, but look a bit closer and it’s just hovering over – it’s there to help reduce the directivity and improve the dispersion of high frequencies. Beneath the mid-bass driver sits a pair of bass reflex ports. They’re made to efficiently deliver audio for rooms up to, and around, 20m2, but they can also be used as effect channel speakers, such as Surround or Atmos, in home theatre setups. EFS Drivers They’re not the most transparent when compared with speakers on the next level like the Kef LS50 or even their big brother the Esprit EZ, but when compared with speakers at their price point, they may be the most transparent I’ve ever heard.

Features

Speaker Cables with Banana Plugs: If you know the lenght of the cable you need, this is the easier option to connect your speakers with your amp. Each generation of “traditional” bookshelf speakers has its active and wireless equivalent at Triangle: after the Elara, the Borea is now available as the Borea BR02BT and BR03BT. The first model, which is the subject of this test, is intended to satisfy music lovers wishing to be initiated into the world of the famous “high-fidelity” while taking advantage of the simplicity of configuration and use of an active and wireless system. Borea BR03 can handle a max power of 100 watts RMS from the amp the whereas Borea BR02 has a max power handling value of 80 watts RMS, 20 watts less than the Borea BR03.
