Although it’s no shorter than the V15, the collection bin is smaller at 350ml, and it doesn’t contain as many of Dyson’s cyclones, reducing the overall suction power to 150AW. Don’t let that put you off, though, because there’s still enough power here to perform a fantastic cleaning job, albeit in a smaller unit that doesn’t take up as much room, so is easier to store. It’s also a good deal cheaper than the V15.

The V7 Trigger is pretty scarce when it comes to attachments. In the box you'll get the crevice tool for getting down the side of your car seats, and the combination tool, with a wider barrel for larger surface areas and a brush addition for hard surfaces. When using the mini motorised tool, the V7 Trigger is one of the best handheld vacuums for removing pet hair. It’s capable of removing hair that’s been ground into rugs or carpet fibres, which is a task most handhelds we test struggle with. The motorised tool is also great for pulling pet hair out of carpet fibres. A downside is that it requires power, which reduces the run-time of the battery – although we found that the increased performance is nearly always worth this trade-off. green laser light that helps you spot where your hard floor is dirty; and the anti-tangle brush bar floor head for carpet, which guides hair off the roller and into the collection bin before it can wrap itself around the roller and become a problem. The V7 Trigger provides powerful suction for a handheld vacuum cleaner. It can’t match the V8, V10, and V11 when it comes to raw power, but we found that it does a brilliant job of most cleaning tasks for a lower price. Let’s take a closer look at how the Trigger performs when faced with common handheld vacuum tasks. Around the Home It also comes with extensions aplenty. As well as the main vacuum unit, the extension pole and extra-large cleaning head (with hair removal veins to keep it clean), the Dyson Outsize comes with a smaller soft head for hard floors and a mini-motorised tool for cleaning stairs and other inconvenient places. You’ll also get a variety of brushes, adaptors and other extensions. Obviously, there's no floor performance stats to discuss, as it doesn't really matter here. But whatever other surface you're working on, the V7 Trigger will clean it. It sometimes struggles with tougher dirt when using the crevice tool though, which is worth keeping in mind for cleaning between seats and other awkward locations that the motorised tool can’t access. The relatively large design can also be unwieldy in small cars – and don’t expect it to generate enough power to remove heavy soiling on floor mats.

The Dyson V7 Trigger is a premium handheld vacuum. It’s a pricey model, but offers the same design and cleaning power as the excellent Dyson V7 cordless vacuum. The Trigger also comes with a motorised tool, several accessories, and a 0.54 litre dust canister. The V7 Trigger comes with a 21.6V battery that can provide a maximum of 30-minutes suction power. This is much longer than many handheld vacs (some models last less than 10 minutes), making the Trigger a great choice for longer cleaning sessions.Having said that, for most upholstery, the V7 Trigger is powerful enough to do the job in regular mode with little effort. And the 30-minute battery life is more than sufficient, too, principally because it only cleans when you squeeze the trigger. When you release your finger from the trigger, the vacuum switches off so you’re not draining the battery when you move from one place to another.

Be in no doubt: this pint-sized vacuum isn’t quite powerful enough to take on full-sized devices. If you want one device to do it all and your heart is set on Dyson, then the Dyson Ball Multi Floor, the Light Ball Multi Floor provide vastly better cleaning performance for similar money. And if you’re feeling a bit flush, the Dyson Cyclone V10 is a pretty good all-rounder, too. The mini motorised head has more than 3,900 stiff bristles to maximise the amount of dirt that’s lifted from the carpet, making it ideal for cleaning furniture, upholstery and stair carpets. The two-in-one combination tool is helpful when vacuuming multiple surfaces, and the crevice tool aids extracting dirt from corners and tighter gaps. The attachments clip in easily, too, provided you keep the couplings clean. Dyson vacuum cleaners have become some of the most highly sought-after items in the home thanks to their excellent build quality, suction power, and eye-catching design. So where are the cheapest Dyson sales happening right now? During our testing, the V7 Trigger provided excellent cleaning performance. The motorised tool was great for getting fluff and hair out of carpets, while the strong suction meant it handled both small particles and larger debris on hard floors. We also found it to be lightweight and easy to use around the home. The next job on the list was removing fine pet hair and hay from the living room rug. Again, the V7 Trigger rose to the challenge at the regular setting, clearing the area in little more than ten seconds. The MAX mode proved helpful for deeply entwined clusters of hair at the edges, leaving the rug looking brighter than I remembered.Uprights tend to have the largest capacity, so you spend less time emptying them, and you can cover larger areas in a shorter amount of time than other models. On the downside, they’re heavier than other models, and the mains cord and detachable hose mean they’re not the most convenient type of vacuum to use on stairs. While the Trigger’s filter does a decent job of removing allergens, there are better options that filter smaller particles if you suffer from allergies.

We think the Dyson V7 Trigger is an excellent handheld vacuum. The 30-minute run-time is long enough for almost any small cleaning job, plus we found it provides great cleaning performance on almost any surface. In almost all cases, the Dyson Trigger button is broken in the above problems and you will have to replace it. How the Dyson Trigger button worksAnother Dyson innovation is ‘the Ball’. This, as the name suggests, is a large ball upon which the vacuum cleaner pivots. Thanks to this single pivot, upright Dyson cleaners are easier to manoeuvre around the house in comparison to traditional wheel-based vacuums. The latest models come with Dyson’s hair-detangling floor head, which combs the brushes of its rotating brush bar as the vacuum cleans, ensuring that hair doesn’t get tangled. The Absolute model comes with three of these in the box: a hard floor head with a laser that highlights the dust on your floor to give you proof of your clean; a new High Torque Head that combs hair from itself as it vacuums your carpets; and a smaller motorised head for furniture and stairs with a unique corkscrew-shaped brush that releases hair from itself as it spins. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a versatile handheld that’s reasonably priced and perfect for smaller clean ups, then the V7 Trigger is an excellent choice. Like all Dyson vacuums, the V7 Trigger is a bagless model that’s built with two tiers of radial cyclones to capture microscopic dust and other particles. The cyclonic design also prevents loss of suction as the vacuum fills up, which is a common problem for cheaper handheld vacs.
