About this deal

Why is Johnny so sad? What can Hartley and the others do to cheer him up? And if they can think of anything, can they keep it a secret? Pipkins originally aired on ITV between January 1973 and December 1981.The very first series was entitled Inigo Pipkin (named after the old puppet maker and main character played by British actor George Woodbridge) and was based around a puppet workshop. Woodbridge had previously appeared in numerous British films, and his west country accent was particularly suited to Hammer style horror films.

Hartley is a poet, so the whole world has to know it-and he soon becomes very boring.................

One of the central characters was Inigo Pipkin, a puppet maker who ran his shop with the help of talking animals and his assistant Wayne. However, when George Woodbridge, the actor who played Inigo Pipkin, passed away during filming, the show was renamed “Pipkins”.

Some people go to the shop to buy their papers. Some people have them delivered by the paper boy. Pipkin’s paper boy is going on holiday, so Topov does his job for him… Today is Mr Pipkin’s Birthday and his birthday tea is being kept a secret. One thing Hartley finds out, however, is that you shouldn’t eat too much jelly. Out of a total of 333 episodes, only 136 have survived. The other 197 episodes no longer exist in any format, while two others exist on 625 line PAL Colour Videotape only as incomplete copies (possibly due to videotape damage caused by poor storage). Nigel Plaskitt — who provided the show's narration, as well as voicing and operating Hartley and Tortoise – made off-air domestic videocassette recordings of around 56 episodes, now the only format in which these are known to exist, and some have been used for the DVD release in the UK. Cast RoleJohnny has a cold, so Charlie comes round and does a few little jobs to help out. Hartley makes Johnny feel worse by saying that Charlie is so much better than Johnny, and Topov makes a complete mess of things by trying to copy Charlie…. The programme’s popularity led to a DVD release, which brought classic Pipkins episodes to new generations of children. Fans were delighted to revisit storylines featuring unique characters like Mooney, a mysterious moon-dweller, and relive the magical moment when Peter Potter joined the cast. Pipkins Episode List Octavia is going to give everyone a treat in Pipkins. Everyone, that bis who is old enough to enjoy it....

Tortoise lived on the cash register of the shop and looked after the cash. Pig was an inventor and had a lab in the cellar, Topov was a (very ugly) monkey who lived in a treehouse in the garden and Hartley Hare was the boss (or thought he was) and always craved to be the centre of attention. No, hang about Pig. I think I've got it. I know how we can help the children. You just thin what Pigeon said. Hartley and his friends want some photographs of their picnic. But as the pictures must be brilliant, there is only one person who can take them..... The storyline moved away from the puppet workshop to deal with a whole range of everyday issues (such as Hartley Hare visiting the dentist in the playlist above) with the characters often helping those in need. What does Mooney keep in his bundle? A question which has been asked for many years. Today, we get a little near the answer....Mr Pipkin’s Workshop 1 st January 1973 This is Mr Pipkins Workshop. Come on in and look around. See all those puppets? Well, Mr Pipkin made them and they are rather special, for they can dance and sing just like humans. Johnny, Hartley, Tortoise, Topov and co start up in business as “Pipkins”, the help people. Hartley answers the phone in the office, while Pig and Topov go ouut in the van to help people…. a tour of a supermarket (puppets precariously balanced around rim of trolley and on bloke’s shoulders as elderly shoppers looked on, askance);

Every time the phone rings, Hartley can’t find it, and by the time he does, it’s in a different place. A case for Inspector Pig…… Bertha is knitting Johnny a scarf, and Hartley, although he doesn't need knitted things because he has his own fur gets cross because she won't knit anything for him. Then Bertha gets cross because Johnny has made a "Mr Woolhead" out of the scarf. Guess what that is? Octavia, a sophisticated ostrich with a French accent, brought an air of grace and charm to the programme. As one of the few female characters, Octavia often played the role of the voice of reason amongst the group.Oh no I can't, I'm in a flap - I'll have to stretch my wings a bit. Chase a few clouds or something. Cheerio. These children are in bed, because they're ill, and this place is a hospital. They come here to get better. This lady is a nurse. The nurse looks after the children. She helps them to get well again.
