About this deal

Temperature regulation: Cooling features, whether they're inherent to the materials used or achieved with added features, don't always do what brands advertise. Because of this, we have users rate and comment on if they maintained a comfortable body temperature while sleeping on the mattress. The Nolah Evolution 15 is a quintessential hybrid mattress, offering an even mix of support and cushioning to ensure healthy sleep posture. Available in three different firmness options, the mattress should feel comfortable for a wide array of sleeper types.

Otty has a grand total of four hybrid mattresses to its name, from the affordably priced Aura to the Pure Hybrid with its bamboo and charcoal-infused memory foam. Featured here is the brand’s Original Hybrid. We put this mattress to the test for three weeks in our in-depth review and found the quality to be reassuringly high for the discounted price. We were particularly impressed by the minimal motion transfer, although if you are lighter in weight then you might find this bed to be a little on the firm side.

Although the wool layer provides some cushioning, the sleep feel here is on the firmer, more responsive side. That's good news for anyone who wants to be able to move around and change position easily, but those with restless partners might be disturbed by their movements, as motion isolation isn't the best. Lightweight sleepers should also proceed with caution, and might get on better with something more cushioned. While it’s not cheap, the Hybrid Pro remains our favourite Simba mattress and one of the best hybrids we’ve tested. It has not one but two layers of micro springs (an upgrade on the regular Hybrid’s single layer), as well as an upper comfort layer made from wool, which is an excellent temperature regulator. While it is the brand’s most expensive mattress, the Emma Premium is still more affordable than the Simba Hybrid Pro featured above. Plus, you get a 200-night to test it out. Emma Premium | Read our full review The Hybrid Comfort begins with a top comfort layer of adaptive polyfoam, followed by memory foam and transitional polyfoam layers. These materials contour closely and respond slowly to movement, creating a cloud-like surface that hugs your body. The top layer’s open-cell composition also resists heat retention and helps the mattress maintain a comfortable temperature. Six layer foam/spring hybrid (bottom layer 5 Zone CarbonFlex Springs, Emma HRX Supreme Foam, Airgocell Memory Foam, Point Elastic Airgocell, Halo Memory Foam, UltraDry Original Cover)

Namely, some hybrids are more spring-oriented, while others emphasise the memory foam. Depending on whether you're looking for extra support and bounce, or contour and pressure relief, one or the other might be a better fit for you.

What are the benefits of Hybrid mattresses?

Did you know that a poor bed frame can affect your mattress? Yup, the noble mattress needs a bit more TLC than first meets the eye, so making sure you have a bed frame that supports it is key. You don’t need a box spring with a hybrid mattress, but a good, solid bed frame that doesn’t sag and that allows the mattress to breathe (ideally with slats that aren’t spaced more than 7.5 cm apart) will do you right.

A few negatives to bear in mind: The cover is dry-clean only, and it’s made in China rather than here in the UK. Other than that, I find it hard to fault. Some comfort layers will be copper-infused or gel-infused to lower heat retention , allowing those who use the mattress to sleep cooler. 4. Pillow-Top or Euro -TopThey tend to be a bit more expensive, compared with regular memory foam mattresses, but often they are worth the premium. We put the Simba GO to the test and found it offered great pressure relief for average to lightweight sleepers as featured in our best mattresses for side sleepers roundup , but would have liked to have seen a removable cover to keep the surface feeling fresh. The transition layer is the cushioning or barrier between the comfort layer and the base support layer . Oftentimes, the transition layer is made of dense foam or latex material. Edge support: We ask users to share how their mattresses hold up (e.g. whether it sinks or stays put) when they sit on the edge of their beds. While hybrid mattresses can be a great choice for many people, there are certain situations where they may not be the best option, soere are some examples of when you may find hybrid mattresses unsuitable:

The Awara is a 'natural' hybrid, swapping synthetic memory foam for a layer of natural latex foam, and pairing it with organic New Zealand wool, a cotton cover and 8-inch coils. In our tests, we found this mattress provided plenty of comfortable cushioning, and would recommend it to all sleeping positions. Next, read about the types of foam or other materials used in the comfort layer . Latex is going to result in a firmer, more responsive mattress. Memory foam will result in a mattress that is much better at conforming to your body, and is an important layer if you are a side sleeper who needs extra pressure relief . You sleep hot on memory foam mattresses . (Pro tip: Look specifically for cooling mattresses when you shop.) The best all-round hybrid mattress in the UK in 2023 is Emma Hybrid Premium. It's surprisingly affordable, and outperforms all other hybrid mattresses in terms of comfort. It also doesn't sag as much as other rival hybrid mattresses, even after a couple of years of testing. Why buy a hybrid mattress? Sleep quality: Reviewers also note any impact on their sleep quality, including whether they wake up feeling sore and compare it to their previous mattresses. We also ask users to select an overall satisfaction score to understand how they feel about their bed holistically.

Sleep trials – commonly offered by online-only, bed-in-a-box mattress brands – allow you the time to try out a mattress to see if it's the right one for you. If you don’t like it, you can return it within the trial period. It will come as no surprise to hear that we test our mattresses by sleeping on them. However, we don’t just put our feet up, there are a number of factors we aim to include. In addition to comfort and support, we consider firmness and temperature control – though, when applicable, we will also factor in edge support and motion isolation. Organic mattresses tend to cost more than non-organic ones, but the Awara is one of the most budget-friendly options on the market. Generous extras, like a 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and free bedding bundle amp up the value further. Latex features in almost all of today's best organic mattress options, as it delivers similar contouring properties to memory foam. It's also super durable (especially Dunlop latex, which is the kind used here) and apparently better at regulating temperature than memory foam, too. In our tests, we found it worked nicely with the breathable wool layer and springs to create a comfortably cool sleep surface.
