But I think it’s kind of weird that you would pay for my shoes to be repaired. I’ve got a hairdressers appointment on Friday! Do you want to pay for that as well???”

Tara was still frowning but did say “OK”, but did look unhappy about me using my handkerchief to dry her boot.I said “Ah, I see. So you must hate it when you get cat hair on your coat or at things like that engagement party.” so found out that some people use UHMW feet instead of PTFE feet. UHMW is a plastic that's like 99% as slippy as PTFE but much more durable. while researching I found a guy that used a UHMW sheet as a mouse pad.

Tara stood up and yawned and stretched. She looked down at her boots and grinned, then said “Thank you so much for doing that!” Then Tara smiled at me before turning and walking toward the door, while I stiffly got to my feet.Tara placed both shoes on my desk and said “Thank you for helping me with this. I really appreciate it”, and then she walked off to her office to start work. I continued wiping Tara’s boot. She had never put her foot on me like that before, and I was struggling to remain calm. Helen looked very disappointed. She said “Well OK, but the problem is... some staff here are tryin to push my buttons... to get me in trouble.” Tara looked down at her boots and frowned. “Seriously, if there is something wrong with my boots, please tell me! Do they look like they need any sort of repair?”

I said to Tara “You know, I’m happy to clean your boots on Monday. But I’m really not sure it’s a good idea to deliberately provoke Helen.” Jenny told me to let her know straight away if there were any more problems with Helen, and then left. Tara said “Well, I suppose I should get started. Thanks for that. I’ll come and get it from you before I go to lunch.”So I told Tara the story about the elderly client waiting outside in the cold for an hour because Helen and Lynn hadn’t called the cab. Bernadette then had a huge row with Helen and Lynn about it. And then i drove him home, which is why I hadn’t been around when Tara had been looking for me. Tara also got me to re-arrange the furniture in her office. Twice! She got me to move her desks, bookcase, filing cabinet, table, chairs, etc. She helped by moving small, very light, stuff... like pens and paperwork. But most of the time she just supervised me by telling where to move things, and often changing her mind. The whole process took about an hour. Friday was a little better for me. Helen still not talking to me, but is that such a bad thing? Tara had a rostered day off, but as usual she popped in for an hour or so to catch up on some paperwork. Andrew asked me to his office for a chat. He also thinks I’m trying to win Tara’s affections. He basically said that Tara is bad news and will “throw you under the bus without giving it a second thought”. He kept telling me there are plenty of women out there, and I should give up on chasing Tara. Tara shook her head ruefully and said “I really am surprised at the self-restraint Helen has been showing... so far.”
