About this deal

Planetary/Batman presents the Joker as a field agent for Planetary named Jasper, working under Richard Grayson. He is apparently harmless and has a habit of giggling when he is nervous. Elijah Snow mentions not liking the way Jasper "kept hugging himself" when looking at pictures of homicides. [184] Smallville Batman, Batgirl, and Red Hood head to the condemned Monarch Theater as inside the letters Batman finds an invitation by the Joker. As they enter, the video of Chill's confession starts playing. Batman faces The Criminal, who intends to turn Chill into the new Joker because of his role in the Dark Knight's creation. Batman saves Chill, who has learned his secret identity and thinks he would deserve it he chose to take his life, but Batman forgives him. The Criminal is then suddenly shot in the head by The Comedian.

Surprisingly, Phoenix is not the only returning member of Joker‘s cast. Zazie Beetz reprises her role as Sophie Dumond, the single mother who lived on Arthur’s floor in the first film. Throughout the tale, he claimed the two were becoming a couple, but a harrowing scene late in the film revealed the truth: she hardly knows him. It’s unclear just how she’ll factor into the film. Will Arthur cling to his fantasy? Will Dr. Quinzel bring her into some sort of therapy to force him into accepting a more objective reality? Or will Sophie just be tortured by a pair of increasingly unhinged people? a b c d The Fire Rises: The Creation and Impact of the Dark Knight Trilogy (Blu-Ray DVD) (Closed-captioned, Color, DVD, NTSC). At the TV station, Arthur meets Murray and his agent Gene (Marc Maron). Before he goes on, Arthur asks Murray to introduce him as "Joker," since Murray referred to him as such when playing his clip. Murray asks Arthur if his clown make-up has political agendas behind it to which Arthur replies, "I don't believe in that. I don't believe in anything." While waiting to be introduced, Arthur sees Murray broadcasting a clip of a struggling Arthur trying to tell a joke. This causes Arthur's mind and plans to change, and then he dances out into the spotlight. The Clown Prince of Crime had been absent for four years as the Batman titles were trying to find a more grounded approach and had refrained from using some of the hero’s more colorful villains. However, you can’t sideline the Joker for long and his return wound up being his deadliest story in years. Recently escaped from Arkham (which was unnamed at the time), the Joker began killing his old crew members, committing murder on panel for the first time in 31 years. This story, “The Joker’s Five-Way Revenge,” is where many of the Clown Prince’s familiar tropes began, such as his Arkham incarcerations, his hesitancy to murder Batman and his more streamlined redesign. If you love Mark Hamill’s version of the Joker from Batman: The Animated Series, you have this story to thank.

They've given many origins of the Joker, how he came to be. That doesn't seem to matter—just how he is now. I never intended to give a reason for his appearance. We discussed that and Bill [Finger] and I never wanted to change it at that time. I thought—and he agreed—that it takes away some of the essential mystery." Murray, Rebecca (March 1, 2017). On 31 July 2006, The Dark Knight was officially announced by Warner Bros. Pictures and Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker. [2] Director Christopher Nolan had met with Ledger over the years for different roles, including the part of Batman in Batman Begins. Ledger explained that he was not interested in working on superhero films; "I would just feel stupid and silly. I couldn't pull it off and there are other people who can perfectly, but I just couldn't take myself seriously". [3] [4] [1] [5] However, later impressed with Batman Begins, Ledger sought the part of the Joker in its sequel. [4] Nolan cast Ledger before there was a script due to his determination, stating; "Heath was just ready to do it, he was ready to do something that big." [6] [3] [7] Casting director John Papsidera stated that they needed somebody courageous to play the part. [8] Boucher, Geoff (July 6, 2008). "Christopher Nolan's Knight Vision". Los Angeles Times. Los Angeles, California . Retrieved September 29, 2015. Ryan Litsey described the Joker as an example of a " Nietzschean Superman," arguing that a fundamental aspect of Friedrich Nietzsche's Superman, the "will to power," is exemplified in all of the Joker's actions, providing a master morality to Batman's slave morality. [200] The character's indomitable "will to power" means he is never discouraged by being caught or defeated and he is not restrained by guilt or remorse. [201] Joker represents the master, who creates rules and defines them, who judges others without needing approval, and for whom something is good because it benefits him. [202] He creates his own morality and is bound only by his own rules without aspiring to something higher than himself, unlike Batman, the slave, who makes a distinction between good and evil, and is bound to rules outside of himself (such as his avoidance of killing) in his quest for justice. [203] The Joker has no defined origin story that requires him to question how he came to be, as like the Superman he does not regret or assess the past and only moves forward. Retrieved September 29, 2015.Bill Finger and I created the Joker. Bill was the writer. Jerry Robinson came to me with a playing card of the Joker. That's the way I sum it up. [The Joker] looks like Conrad Veidt– you know, the actor in The Man Who Laughs, [the 1928 movie based on the novel] by Victor Hugo.... Bill Finger had a book with a photograph of Conrad Veidt and showed it to me and said, 'Here's the Joker.' Jerry Robinson had absolutely nothing to do with it, but he'll always say he created it till he dies. He brought in a playing card, which we used for a couple of issues for him [the Joker] to use as his playing card. [10] [11]
