The Makita LS1019L is a highly innovative 10″ sliding compound miter saw that rivals 12″ saws when it comes to cutting capacity. Usually, if you’re doing 5″ and 6″ molding, a 12″ saw is what you would use. With this miter saw though, you can actually get similar cutting capacity without requiring the larger tool (and their more expensive 12″ blades).
As you can see with a dust collection system this is almost efficient enough to use in an operation room. Okay maybe that is a stretch, but the saw performs when it comes to collecting shavings when attached to a dust extraction system. Besides this, it comes with a new compact rail system with 20 percent larger rails providing higher precision at the time of bevel cutting. What makes it a favorable choice is its working capacity and accuracy that has managed to gain attention for better performance. Our saw was dead on accurate right out of the box which was a nice breath of fresh air. No fumbling around with lining things up. We just had to install the blade and we were set to cut. The dust collection is one of the best we have seen along with it being one of the smoothest saw to operate. The rail system is located on the side is a genius way to make this the perfect saw even for tight spaces. I don’t work with crown molding so I think I found my new favorite sliding miter saw.When I first saw the Makita LS1019L in Dallas on our Makita trip, I thought it was cool, but it didn’t make me turn my head. Not because of the saw or the technology, but because I am stubborn. At the time I was already sold on the Dewalt DWS780 as being the king of miter saws and for a shop saw, the Bosch CM12SD Glide Saw as it saves room on your work bench. I didn’t need to be sold on a new saw. This saw is great for contractors because of it’s impressive cutting capacities, great power, and small footprint due to the unique rail system Makita uses. As known, Makita Company is known to manufacture high-quality miter saws that have a reputation in the market. Taking the goodwill to the next level, LS1019L comes with excellent features that make it possible to get the wood cutting tasks. It has been smartly engineered to provide high-end accuracy and simple to execute. I know some larger wood shops may not have this issue, but either way, dust collection is still important. And unless you’re willing to build a dust collection box around your miter saw, the dust system built-in to the Makita LS1019L is one of the best you can get.
The slide-out rails are a bit different than most manufacturers (but similar to Ryobi’s). The Makita rails are heavy gauge, single steel rods bent into a supportive structural shape, as you can see here. They work great for support longer boards when cutting dimensional lumber. It also comes with a connector piece and a flexible hose. This can be attached to the dust collection assembly, and the other side of the hose runs to the blade shroud, creating additional dust collection right at the cutting action of the saw.

For miter saws, dust typically flies in all directions and is hard to take control of. This built-in dust collection is a huge improvement over many competitors, and is a big selling point for this Makita 10″. For the average woodworker, I think this is a good choice, primarily for the dust collection. Woodworker shops need good dust extraction systems since they are typically in enclosed, and somewhat small areas. Makita have gone to great lengths to ensure safety. It has a soft start safety feature and the electric brake shuts down the machine in the event of the blade jamming. This mitre saw comes with a 260mm diameter TCT saw blade, with 30mm bore diameter, a dust bag and hex wrench.

What makes it a perfect option for carpenters is the direct drive motor design with a soft start. Indeed, most of the miter saws in the market operate on belt drives that get stretched with time and need replacement. Its direct-drive motor is powerful enough to give a sound cutting experience. Certainly, you are able to cut tougher materials with much ease too. Another good thing about the design is its rail system that allows the positioning of saw flush to the wall without losing cross-cutting capacity. Usage:
