About this deal

The bezel takes up a lot of room on the watch. In fact, the dial is only 32mm, whereas the bezel takes up most of the rest of the space. The markers are very small – just some small dots on the dial which are also applied with lume. Unless you are new to analog watch, this will not be a problem. While the dial is actually only 32mm, the diameter is 42mm in total. The rest of the space is taken up by the rotating bezel, which is also used as a slide rule. This is used as a mathematical apparatus. More about this later. Beyond being relegated to “math time”, this watch has, in fact, become my shadow-side GADA. I wear it often, as much as I wear my typical GADA. I find that I do use the alarm, I use the chronograph (curse those screw-down pushers), and I unabashedly use the main indicator on the bezel in dive-bezel fashion. This watch has duly earned its few scratches, and I intend to wear it to smithereens. This watch can withstand up to 200M of water, so you can use it when you are showering, swimming, scuba diving and while you do other water-related activities.

A slide rule on aviation watches is named rotary slide rule because its circle in shape (compared to normal slide rule that is bar in shape like normal ruler). It’s definitely worth having in mind the next time you’re going shopping for watches. This would make a great, affordable addition to any collection. For people who prefer clean dials, it can feel a bit cluttered, but for those who love a seriously sporty watch, the busy dial adds to the personality of the SNA411P1.

And, you’ll look very impressive when using it. Now, the slide rule bezel might be a bit complicated at first, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to perform calculations fast. As you might expect, it comes with the usual trimmings, including steel construction and sapphire crystal. If you like the feeling of a very heavy watch, at 150 grams, this certainly gives the impression of quality (by association to density). It is powered by the caliber 7T62 which is a quartz and battery-powered movement. With all of these functions, a quartz movement was a clever move from Seiko. Now, there will naturally be people who would prefer a mechanical movement, but for this exact watch, we are unsure if it would have been a better move. If the movement would have been mechanical, it would have been less accurate, more expensive, and more complicated to maintain. The Seiko Flightmaster SNA411 has impressive accuracy, as you would expect.

The bracelet is a three-link bracelet with broad center links and small side links. The center links are polished. At this price point, we shouldn’t expect the most robust bracelet in the industry, and that is true for this watch. Generally, the bracelet is often the part that is ”compromised” with when it comes to affordable watches, since making a robust and highly well-finished bracelet costs a lot of resources. If you are looking for a watch that can do more than just tell the time, then the Seiko Flightmaster SNA411 is the watch for you. It is the perfect watch for pilots and engineers, it can also be worn by those who want a watch that is loaded with features and a watch that looks great in whatever style you wear, may it be sporty or classy. It is a budget-friendly watch that will not require you to spend more than you plan to. As mentioned, the watch has three subdials, two of which are used as the chronograph and one that works as an alarm (or an additional time zone). A slide rule is an important tool for aviation because it allows for rapid calculations “off the cuff”. Fuel efficiency, unit conversions, and more are important to know when trying to determine, say, how far you can go with what you’ve got in the tank, especially when a mile up in the sky. Oh, and miles to kilometers? The slide rule does that easily. Pilot’s watches for the people The Seiko SNA411 is a highly functional, impressive looking timepiece. It reminds me of a Breitling style watch but without cost. Overall I’d say it’s quite a nice watch if you like these busier dial designs. This means you can just wear this watch when swimming or scuba diving without the need to change to your diver watch. How cool is that? But of course for very deep dives I would recommend an ISO 6425 certified diver watch for your own safety =p and not just a pissing contest of which watch flew further, the Flightmaster is the more capable watch. Even though this is a dedicated pilot watch, Seiko has actually implemented 200 meters of water resistance. Another point for durability and functionality. You’d not expect such an implementation, but it’s a welcomed modification. It’s always good to have some sort of water resistance with your watch, just in case you forget to take it off before going for a bath or a dive. Within is just a cheap Japanese quartz movement, which is nothing fancy, but does provide accurate time. There is also a butterfly style deployant on the strap, to keep it in good condition for longer. Regardless, the 200-meter water resistance goes well together with the tool-like personality of the Flightmaster.

Looking at the size of the watch, I’d class this as a larger timepiece with its 42mm casing diameter and 13mm case depth. A lot of watches you see these days are around the 42mm mark as it’s become more and more popular. Hi Brian! Happy to hear you got one for yourself. It’s essentially ruined most other chronographs for me. The case is made out of stainless steel and has the durable feel that you’d expect from the practical kind of watch that it is. It has a chronograph that is a functional tool and is useful for engineers and pilots. To use the feature, you need to operate the two pushers found on the right side of the watch. The one at the top right is used to start and to pause the chronograph while the one at the bottom right is used to reset the chronograph. It also has a split time function, which is useful for sporting events. You can record time of events. Rotary slide rule Moving on to the bezel of this watch, it is bold, big, and of course practical. The bezel is not just there for aesthetics but it also serves a purpose. The Seiko SNA411 is a quartz watch, which means that it’s powered by a battery. The seconds-hand moves in a sweeping motion (continually moving, instead of the “tik-tok” approach). A quartz solution was needed, as these watches are more precise than automatic watches – and precision is incredibly important for pilots. The Chronograph When it comes to affordable watches, there are few brands that have the same respect as Seiko. The Seiko Flightmaster SNA411P1 is one of those watches. It is bold, sporty, technically advanced, and of course rather good-looking. This wristwatch can be bought in watch stores, in Seiko stalls or shops and it can be bought online. Conclusion

The 200m water resistance is something most people like to see on a more serious sports style watch. The 200m rating makes this suitable for professional marine activity, serious surface water sports, and skin diving. Although this watch is not the first one to use this concept, Seiko is the company that was able to execute it well on this wristwatch. Due to liquidation, in 1979, Brietling sold the design rights of the Navitimer to watchmaker Helmut Sinn. As such, Sinn were able to legally produce the exact Navitimer design under the guise of the ‘903 Navigation Chronograph’.Since the dial goes out to the very edge of the watch, it’s perceived to be bigger than it is, and some even feel that it wears like a 40mm.
