About this deal

It feels robust, like a speaker that could survive some drops and remain unperturbed by scratches and scuff marks. At 729g the P5 is not insubstantial in terms of weight – Audio Pro says you could put this in your travel luggage for holidays and at 22 x 9.7 x 5.3cm (HWD) that is true, but it’s not any smaller than the competition. The Marshall Emberton II, for example, is more compact. There’s support for MP3, AAC, WMA, Apple Lossless and FLAC audio files via the aux input, and that is your lot on the features side. A short story indeed. Sound Quality

If the Audio Pro P5’s list of features was a book, it would be shorter than a novella. The features are, as you’re about to find out, a short story. The sound quality isn’t perfect, audiophiles might notice a bit of distortion here and there, but for most people, it’s perfectly fine and it’s pretty loud. You’ll also get manual control over the bass in the smartphone app, or choose between three different preset sound modes. One of the most distinctive features is the multicoloured light ring around the top - it definitely jazzes up the design a little because the light dances to music. In the day it’s a bit underwhelming but at night it looks pretty cool. Dr Dre’s Still D.R.E. should always cause a solid head nod and the BT5 delivers the goods, offering up a well-rounded sound as Dre’s trademark glossy production levels are handled confidently. The thud of the drums is there, though could perhaps do with a little tightening up, but we’re just happy there’s some decent bottom end on show for a speaker of this size and price. With award-winning speakers across their range, Audio Pro are one of the most highly respected brands in the business. The Scandinavian company puts strong emphasis on sound quality, with their advanced speaker tech producing detailed and vibrant sound. Equally strong on style, their timeless speakers never fail to hit the mark. With the P5, you get all the usual Audio Pro qualities, plus weatherproof portability. Played at half volume, the P5’s battery life stretches to 14 hours – easily enough for a day’s entertainment – indoors or out. Audio Pro is known for making speakers with a simple, modern design and fantastic sound. Their smallest is the Audio Pro P5, it doesn’t have tonnes of features but it does deliver music in the way that it was meant to be heard.Small enough to fit in your bag, it’s the perfect music-listening companion for those who care more about quality than anything else. If you want a speaker with energetic, accurate and punchy sound then the Audio Pro P5 does not disappoint. You can hear every detail across the lows, mids and highs, something that portable speakers aren’t always able to get across, especially with the amount of volume you get here. It goes really loud! That’s all thanks to a 1-inch tweeter, 3.2-inch long-throw woofer and 35W amplifier. In our testing, we were impressed by the sound quality but we really enjoyed the Outdoor Boost because it makes the audio a bit less bassy and a little more shrill. It doesn't sound better than the normal mode, clearly, but it 'cuts through' better and is a handy addition. In an emergency, you can also still charge your phone from the Wonderboom 2, as long as you have the right Micro-USB cable which I doubt many people will.

The P5 also impresses on the battery life you will get 18 hrs of battery life at 50% volume but this drops dramatically if you take it to the max volume you only get 4 hrs due to the high fidelity of the speaker.

Acoustics Pylon Amber MKII: powerful floor-standing two-way speakers with tweeter horn

So is it a bad thing that Audio Pro has kept everything else simple here? I don’t think so, the focus is well and truly on the sound quality and that’s quite refreshing. What makes it even better is that it's not that expensive either. It would be hard not to recommend this speaker! Audio Pro P5 review: also consider

On the side is a flap that conceals an aux 3.5mm input and a USB-C input (for charging). This little compartment contributes to the speaker’s IPX4 rating, which is not strong as I’d have expected for a portable speaker. It indicates that the P5 is fine against splashes of water but hasn’t been tested against dust and small particles (like sand). Both the Emberton II and JBL Charge 5 offer far sturdier resistance in that context. Features I found if you’re using this in the garden at 50% volume you will have no issues with battery life but venture to somewhere like a beach where you might want extra volume then that battery life did become a slight concern but even at 4 hrs, it should offer you all the music you need while entertaining or going out. Now you will get a slight warning with the flashing red light but a more detailed battery indicator would have been helpful. VerdictWith its dedicated amp and 3.2 inch custom woofer, the P5 isn’t shy about the bass. The impressive frequency response is a match for much larger speakers and gives the P5 a real presence that’s often missing from portable speakers. If you’re fed up of tinny-sounding small speakers, then prepare to be in for a pleasant surprise.
