About this deal

The X-T5 supports the HEIF image format, which delivers 10-bit image quality in files up to 30% smaller than standard JPEGs. The next chapter in delivering high-quality results straight out of camera has officially begun for X Series. The A6700 has a much larger buffer than the XT5, being able to shoot at 11fps for over 1000 Fine JPEGs, 59 RAW images or 44 RAW and JPEGs in one high-speed burst.

Like all X-T series cameras, there's no top plate LCD to display settings. If you're like me and enjoy being able to see your settings on a screen, then the X-H2 might be better fit. This all comes down to preference, though. If you enjoy the idea of "traditional photography," then the dial layout should work well for you, as it means that you think more carefully about exposure settings and controls. Improved stabilisation control at the end of pan/tilt to reduce oscillation at the end of pan/tilt. Our used products are subject to wear and tear in comparison to brand new products. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy. The X-T5 can automatically detect animals, birds, cars, bikes, planes and trains thanks to the X-Processor 5's AI deep learning capabilities. Burst ShootingLike the flip-out screen, Fujifilm’s basically saying if you want these features with the latest sensor, you’ll need to spend more on the X-H series and forgo those vintage dials. The X-T5 can focus on birds in flight, but my hit-rate wasn’t especially high. Fujifilm X-T5, XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR at 153mm, 1/1250sec at f/5, ISO 240, 10MP crop. Image credit: Andy Westlake As Fujifilm’s technologies improved though, the X-T evolved to become more adept at fast action, sports and wildlife photography, as well as growing into a very capable tool for video, and in turn the body gradually beefed-up to better-handle bigger lenses while also acquiring a side-hinged screen. At normal operation temperatures the X-T5 provides a continuous recording time of 90 minutes (25ºC) and 60 minutes when capturing 4K/60p. Even during extreme 40ºC heat you can record for 17 minutes and 18 minutes respectively at the same settings. Enhanced in-body stabilisation

Fujifilm's 40MP BSI chip, used in both the X-T5 and X-H2, adds very little read noise translating to flexible Raw files with plenty of dynamic range for editing. The A6700 can capture oversampled 4K from 6K at up to 60p and also 4K/120p with a 1.62x crop. Video can be captured in 10-bit 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 in either H.265 or H.264 AVC files. The battery’s the same NP-W235 intro’d on the X-T4 and also used on the latest X-H bodies, with Fujifilm claiming 740 frames in economy mode or around 90 minutes of video. Here I used the X-T5’s bird recognition AF, and shot in 24MP crop mode. Fujifilm X-T5, XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR at 110mm, 1/1250sec at f/5, ISO 1000 Not everyone "needs" 40MP, but it is an improvement if your photography takes advantage of extra resolution. I tested a bunch of my lenses and the sensor registers additional detail. (I appreciate the point that noise on a higher MP sensor is less visible than on a lower MP sensor.) Grumbles about video quality aside, the X-T5 offers very good in-body stabilization, making it easy to shoot steady handheld footage. And 'IS Boost' mode does a darn good job of replicating a tripod, allowing for long, handheld static shots.

This is one of several differentiators between the T and H, and if you look closely you may notice it on the finest details when composing, plus higher resolution displays are always handy for confirming manual focus. That said, unless you have them side by side you probably won’t notice in general use, and on the upside at least it’s not the 2.36 million dot EVF of the Canon R7. An upgraded stabilisation algorithm improves IBIS which rises from 6.5-stops in the previous model to 7-stops of high image stabilisation performance. Video mode stabilisation offers improvements to panning through: In the Single point AF mode there are up to 425 selectable AF points arranged in a 25x17 grid. Alternatively, the camera can be set to 117 points in a 13x9 grid, and the size of the points can also be varied. The X-T5 uses the same NP-W235 batteries as its predecessor. It's a 16Wh unit that powers the camera to a rating of 590 shots per charge using the viewfinder or 580 shots using the rear screen. These numbers drop to 500 and 570 shots, respectively, if you use Boost mode to up the refresh rate of the finder to 100fps or the rear screen to 60fps. This will undoubtedly frustrate the venn diagram of X-T lovers who want both the grip and the retro aesthetic, although I’m told the takeup on that accessory wasn’t particularly large. I certainly understand Fujifilm wants to differentiate between the models and provide reasons to spend more on an X-H2, but I feel killing the grip accessory for the X-T5 is an unnecessary restriction. In my tests I confirmed the X-T5’s top mechanical burst speed of 15fps, even with continuous autofocus, where I was able to capture 329 large fine JPEGs before the camera slowed. That’s over 20 seconds of action at the full resolution, so should be fine for most scenarios, plus the buffer emptied almost immediately when using a fast UHS II SD card. The X-T4 became their most capable all-rounder to date, but by trying to be all things to all people, had arguably lost some of its original charm and appeal. When Fujifilm introduced the X-H1 as a new flagship, I was initially confused, but now with the X-H2 and X-T5, their strategy has become clear.

Shot at ISO 6400, towards the top end of the ISO 125-12,800 standard sensitivity range, the standard setting for High ISO Noise Reduction does a pretty good job of minimizing graininess, but it comes at the expense of a loss of fine detail, which is largely smoothed out. (Image credit: Tom's Guide) As a landscape photographer, and after several years of badgering, I am delighted that once again Fujifilm have delivered with, to some, a small but to me an important feature. You can now select the 5x4 and 4x3 crop modes in camera. Yay! Animal detection works with impressive reliability. Out of camera JPEG shot using the Provia/Standard profile. The design of the Fujifilm X-T5 definitely marks it out as more of a hobbyist camera than a pro workhorse. If you like deep grips, then you'll want to look elsewhere (at the X-H series, for example). But it also offers a perfectly-evolved control system that's been refined in a few places. The Sony A6700 has a native ISO range of 100-32,000, and both can be pushed two stops further to ISO 204,800 and drop down to ISO 50 if required.
