A bakery owner's furious rant has gone viral on social media after his cake shop was reported to Trading Standards for using 'illegal' sprinkles. So you know how now you can kind of get dessert delivered on Just Eat and stuff. When we started that didn't exist. We were actually approached by Just Eat to be the first company on the platform, and we actually turned them down."

The first thing that drew me to this cookbook was the bright and colorful cover. Then I read in the description something about a "Sprinklegate" and I just had to know more. So thankfully I was given the chance to preview this book by NetGalley and the publisher White Lion Publishing and I will be forever grateful. GET BAKED in Leeds shot to fame during 'Sprinklegate', when its founder, Rich Myers, brilliantly capitalized on the banning of his use of US sprinkles. Rather than going quietly, Rich declared he would never use the inferior British variety and boycotted all sprinkles until he had created a UK version that does the job to his satisfaction! The popular cake shop in Leeds was even forced to temporarily close following a surprise visit from officials, who evetnually told them to stop using the colourful topping 'with immediate effect' because it contained an additive which is banned in the UK. He added he will not use any other sprinkles on his baked goods: “Unfortunately, I am only prepared to use them and no others. If I can’t use them, I won’t use any. I will be on a sprinkle strike and won’t budge for no man. Rich, who founded the bakery in 2011, has certainly not taken this lying down; he’s since created his own sprinkle line and written a cookbook. Rich told MyLondon: "When we first started, my dad had just passed away. We were both very interested in food and he never really lived long enough to see me be like a proper man. So I was desperate to sort of do that while he was alive.

A number of colourants known as “azo dyes” have been banned in the EU since 2003, with the UK continuing the proscription after Brexit. Sprinkles available to the public in supermarkets are coloured with alternative dyes, and tend to be less bright than those used in the United States.

Rich told MyLondon: "When we first started, my dad had just passed away. We were both very interested in food and he never really lived long enough to see me be like a proper man. So I was desperate to sort of do that while he was alive. The businessman added: "I'm talking eggs that have been so well poached, you'll think you have died, and gone to hell. It's a dream. Soon that dream will become a reality. Tell everyone." Gogglebox star from Leeds Ellie Warne shared her excitement, and said: "Amazing location. Congrats."

This book brings you 40 of those most popular creations, including Raspberry Glazed Donut Cookie, Lemon Meringue Pie, Mr Pistachio, Purple Haze, S'Mores Brownies, Campfire and Birthday Truffles, culminating in the famous 'Bruce', a 24-layer giant consisting of chocolate cake and ganache, that people travel far and wide to buy.Mr Myers said he bought the sprinkles from a well-known wholesaler in the UK and had not ever thought they were off limits. The Headingley bakery, which is known for its giant layered 'Bruce' cakes, explained that the American sprinkles may contain colourings that aren’t allowed in the UK, and they needed to be tested. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Trading Standards told the Manchester Evening News: "West Yorkshire Trading Standards can confirm that we have advised the business concerned that the use of E127 is not permitted in this type of confectionery item. So I just wrote on Facebook and I said to my wife 'if anyone reacts to this, I'm gonna do it again'. And she thought I was crazy. Then, within about half an hour of writing, I got a call from all sorts of newspapers and it just took off straightaway, basically. He has been updating customers on social media over the last few days and it was on Facebook where he first revealed two of his most popular bakes will no longer feature. His comments have since gone viral.

The sprinkle saga began on October 3, when the bakery posted about a ‘lovely visit’ from Trading Standards after a disgruntled customer made a complaint. I'm gonna have a few problems to solve though before I attempt a recipe. I'm gonna have to figure out what digestive biscuits are as well as a few other ingredients (caster sugar I'm looking at you). This sensational cookbook brings you a range of the tastiest treats from the iconic GET BAKED® bakery in Leeds!
