About this deal

For 2021, Philips is doubling-down on this exclusive tech by making it available across more of its TV range and adding an Ambilight strip to the bottom edge of more models. This fourth side of Ambilight probably won't make a huge difference if the TV is placed on a stand, but it should look fabulous if you go down the wall-mounted route. Android TV 10

Motion is also good with no obvious issues with 24fps material, with correct pulldown applied when the Motion Style is set to Movie. You can also set it to off to achieve correct motion with most other viewing material. All other motion options add in interpolation and soap opera effect even in the minimum settings and should be handled with care if you decide to use them for fast-moving video and sports footage. The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively. Turning to new video features, at the top of the tree is the fifth-generation of Philips' P5 AI Intelligent Picture Engine. This applies a dizzying roster of separate processing elements to what Philips sees as the five fundamental parts of picture quality: colour, source detection, contrast, sharpness and motion.

This television contains lead only in certain parts or components where no technology alternatives exist in accordance with existing exemption clauses under the RoHS Directive. While selecting modes and changing settings involves interacting with Philips’s own menu system, the core user experience is provided by Google, in the form of Android TV 9. The fact that there are essentially two operating systems working concurrently makes for a less unified experience than you get from a Samsung or LG TV (the Home screen feels more like a source than the true core of the user interface) but Android TV is getting better with each new version and is better laden with apps than ever before. The percentage of the approximate area, taken by the active part of the screen, to the total front area.Mini LED joins the Philips family of TVs, promising thin screens and blazing HDR brightness. However, Philips won’t be wading into the 8K with no models on the horizon. This TV offers superb value for money, not only in its performance but in its spec sheet too. It’s great to see both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ supported, plus features like HDMI 2.1/eARC and Dolby Atmos. All of its new OLED and MiniLED models have two full-speed (48gbps) HDMI 2.1 connections, and the sets support 4K@120Hz (also known as HFR), VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), all of which will be big news for gamers in particular. 5th Gen P5 AI processor In other respects, it’s clear why this is at the bottom. There’s no Android TV, replaced by the Saphi interface. That means no built-in Chromecast, Google Assistant, or the Google Play Store, but the set will support major SVOD apps in Netflix and Disney+. There’s no Ambilight, and the number of HDMI inputs drops to three. Philips uses the Android smart TV platformacross its TV range, with 2021 models getting the latest Android 10 iteration. It’s the most common TV platform and the most unremarkable – though Android’s stability issues have generally improved over the past couple of years, thanks to updates from Google.
