He appears to have lazy, frowning eyes and no visible mouth, with his nose moving instead when he speaks. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Tom Nook's clothing is changed to reflect his new employment at Nook's Homes, wearing a teal-colored vest with a white undershirt and red tie, and gray pants. When outside, he wears a yellow coat. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, he wears a Nook Inc. Aloha Shirt in spring and summer, and he wears an orange and yellow sweater with a Nook Inc. Blouson over it in fall and winter.

In all games prior to New Leaf, Nook starts out with Nook's Cranny, expanding after the player buys enough from him. There are a total of four expansions for his shop:
