About this deal

Rumour would have it that the grandad shirt's origins may well have only just predated your own grandfather. On the factory floor in the late 1920s, with flapping ties a safety hazard around heavy machinery, blue-collar workers were said to cut off the collars of their shirts. No wonder, then, that the style is particularly favoured among workwear brands today.

Style Tip | Pair this suit with an eye-catching gold tie and tan brogues for a stylish wedding guest look.Style Tip | Bring out the rustic accents with a knitted rust tie, a crisp white shirt and tan brogues. Perfect for tying in with a rich burgundy wedding theme, this suit will work for all the groomsmen. Try switching up the waistcoat for a varied look and to match the bridesmaids.

Styling Tip | Complete the look with a crisp white shirt, knitted wine tie, tan brogues and a MD gold waistcoat chain. Perfect the vintage look in this luxurious wool blend tweed. This timeless three piece will stand the test of time and make you the best-dressed at every occasion.

The Staff Style Blog

The Grandad shirt's origin is just over the Atlantic Ocean at New York in 1927. When a lady named Hannah Montague cut the collar off her husband’s shirt to wash it separately and so was born the detachable collar. As I mentioned previously, the Grandad shirt is historically very formal. Lots of different detachable collar styles were available including the 1920's classics of the Pin Collar or the Tab collar, no pioneered by the menswear brand Hawkins & Shepherd. Without the detachable collar buttoned in, the shirt has a plain banded type of collar, which gave birth to the grandad collar you'll find today.
