About this deal

Remember to keep everything at least 50mm away from the felt or breather membrane to maintain airflow.

Loft Legs or loft stilts are loft flooring legs that raise your loft floor boards allowing extra height for your insulation to sit underneath without compressing it. Loft legs therefore maximise your heat saving performance as compressing insulation greatly reduces how effective it is. The more insulated your house is, the colder your loft will be. This is because the insulation is slowing down the heat trying to escape your house. A colder loft does also means warm moist air can condensate within the loft. There are lots of benefits to loft boarding and it’s growing more and more popular. Especially for people with growing families who either don’t want to move or find the cost of moving intimidating. Loft boarding can provide numerous benefits for both you and your home. Here is a list of six main benefits: 1. It creates extra space A variant of this is to use a raised floor system, such as the awesome LoftZone. This is an expert job to fit but will give you a professional finish and it takes care of airflow. The down side to this is that boarding out a loft or attic floor is made more difficult with an increased depth of loft, or attic insulation. If you fix the floor boards to the existing joists there will not be room for the insulation, and if you squash the insulation you make it much less effective. Regulations for Loft Conversion and Boarding Lofts Decide where in the loft you want your boarding. Your decision will be influenced by the shape and size of your loft. There may also be obstructions such as vertical beams at awkward angles. Some people opt for a small area just around the perimeter of the loft hatch. This allows them to climb the ladder and retrieve their items without actually entering the loft. This is fine if you only have a few items to store up there but again, should the amount of items increase, the overhead of extending the boarded area is greater than doing the job initially.

We recommend you measure the area you’re looking to board out and work out a rough estimate. This will save you from any potential surprises further down the line. How long does it take to board a loft? Do you have water or gas pipes in your loft? If so then ensure you board around them to ensure easy access. If a water pipe bursts the last thing you want is to be ripping up your loft boards. This also applies to important electrical connection, such as light fittings and junction boxes. Down Lights (Recessed Lights)There are many differences between insulation. Warton Woodworks only use insulation wool, space blanket or PIR insulation boards. PIR foam board is more effective then glass wool by a factor of 2. This means 100mm of PIR is equivalent to 200mm of glass fibre wool. There are a few things to consider before you dive straight into boarding the loft. Those things will have an impact on the work needed to complete the loft to a professional standard. This means you will have 100mm of glass mineral wool between your joists. Then you will have 200mm of glass mineral wall 90 degrees to this, between your loft legs. Like the image below, however this particular loft used space blanket insulation. This is basically glass fibre wool wrapped in aluminum foil:

With storage space at a premium, utilising any available space in your home is a no-brainer. And doing it the right way, with properly installed insulation could save you a lot of money in the long run.Loft boards should be fixed at the centre beams accept at the edges that can be edge fixed or overhang slightly Place the loft boards on top of the cross beams. The edge of each board should be positioned and fixed at the centre of the beam when you are fitting a larger boarding setup e.g. 2 or more board widths and for the ends of each run of boards, they can be fixed at the edge of a beam or even overhang slightly if needed (as long as this doesn’t cover any ventillation areas)
