Takes a severe plummet in quality around the final third / quarter. The part documenting the post-rehab years. Not exactly because of that but I understand it’s harder to make stories of anxiety in recovery as interesting as guns and class A’s. But the narrative tried too hard to counter that, resulting in cliche and melodrama. I’m sure I don’t need to explain why ending a chapter: “ I had no idea what was in store...” (yes including the ellipsis) makes me less interested to find out, not more. The prose towards the beginning , while not exactly sophisticated , could have an intelligent flourish, so it feels like the whole thing ran out of steam. Mike discusses his early life, including his youth and adolescence, and how he came to be addicted to drugs and alcohol. The word affluenza comes to mind. It is like how you would sympathize with a fraud victim, until their victimization leads them to begin stealing wages from their own workers. The sympathy and understanding ENDS THERE. How long has The Fifth Vital been in the making? I started writing the book in 2012. I know it’s crazy to imagine that almost eight years of work has gone into the book. I then met my writing partner Riley in 2019, and we worked hard to get the book over the finish line in six months to become what it is today. So it’s been quite a long journey. While I can't call a book on such a difficult subject entertaining, Mike does a great job of detailing his slow and painful descent into the hell of drug addiction.

Thisis a very powerful, inspirationalstory very inspirational because he begins with high school life, the beginning of his addiction, its effects on his life, and ends with his story today.After getting the book, I could not stop reading it. In fact, I finished it in an entire day because of his compelling story. It is compelling and attention-grabbing, and I would read this again. It is one of the best books I've ever read. The descriptions were grim, vile yet authentic. It made me cringe at the disgusting scenes which is a tribute to how well it was written. Along with “The Fifth Vital,” Mike Majlak and his friend and fellow YouTuber, Logan Paul, also co-authored two other books.
