About this deal

Sadly, these chips were broken into many little pieces by the time they made their way onto our taste test table and boy, oh boy, are those broken edges sharp! We also had a tough time scoring a bag of these in the first place, and after searching several locations, finally found them at Whole Foods. You could have up to two servings of sea-salted popchips from the larger bag and still be within your syn allowance for the day. Popchips Syn Values - 85G ALLERGEN NOTE: all these chips are certified gluten free--wohoo! Keep an eye out for other allergens though, as commercially produced chip brands are well-known for making use of potentially problematic oils such as peanut oil or soybean oil. We’ll be sure to make note of such oils on products where it pertains. Best Classic Salt & Vinegar Chips: Lay's Salt & Vinegar Flavored Chips Looking to give your taste buds an even bigger surprise? Flavored salt and vinegar chips are the way to go! This bag of Mexican Style papitas from the family-operated Siete brand takes things to a whole other level with the introduction of a bit of spice. Sea salted flavour popchips in particular have 6.5 syns in for a 28g serving, making them quite high in syns, so should only be eaten in moderation on the slimming world plan.

And just what you don’t want to hear about these extra costly chips is that they are extra sensitive as well. Since they’re made from dehydrated animal protein, they are more sensitive to moisture than the usual potato-based chip options and the bag advises you to consume them within 14 days of opening. They are structurally fragile as well, and we sadly found lots of broken pieces in the bottom of our bag. Pros: Nutrition Content: carefully considering fat and sodium contents, as well as sugars, protein, fiber, vitamins/minerals provided, and general quality of ingredients. The salt and vinegar concept is a new flavor for this company, but the fact that these chips are both certified vegan and non-GMO verified are facts that have been around since the initial Terra chips were launched nearly 20 years ago. Need even more goodness? Terra proudly supports the Seed Saver Exchange Program, a non-profit which works to preserve the beautifully diverse world of heirloom fruit and vegetable varieties! Level of spice is nicely balanced with the tangy, salty flavors of these chips--our favorite tasting chips across the board.

In addition to featuring a beautiful rainbow of autumnal hues, these chips also come with a super tasty underlying sweetness, almost like a bag of dehydrated fruit strips! It may not be the first flavor profile that comes to mind when you picture a salt and vinegar chip, but it is a tasty one nonetheless. Though potato chips have been around for several hundred years, it was not until 1954 that a process for adding seasoning to chips was introduced to the commercial chip market. This simple shift opened the floodgates for flavors such as barbecue, sour cream & onion, cheese & onion, and of course--salt & vinegar. That green tinge that you sometimes see on a potato or potato chip is the sign of a compound known as solanine, which accumulates when these darkness-loving tubers end up getting too much sun exposure. This stuff may have toxic effects when consumed in large quantities so exercise caution around any verdant chips! Do Salt and Vinegar Chips Actually Have Vinegar? We found the salty flavor of these chips to be well balanced by the acidic components--in this case a mixture of malic acid and vinegar--and that these chips somehow had a more savory, potato-y taste than many of the other varieties we tasted.

While there aren’t too many things that can trump a fried potato, a fried organic potato is surely one of them! The folks at Spudlove are working to ensure that their potato products are as good as possible and we have to agree, they surely succeed here. As you’re about to find out, there are salt and vinegar veggies chips, protein chips, and even tortilla chips out there!
