If you want to change the top button shortcuts, change the hand you write with, or change other pen settings, go to Change pen settings for more info. Rest your hand on the screen, like you would on a piece of paper, then start writing. Your Surface is designed to ignore your hand and other inputs while you write. Use the pointer that appears under your pen tip to guide you while you ink. In fact, you don’t have to pair or connect your Surface Pen to start sketching or drawing on your Surface device. However, pairing the Surface Pen with your laptop or tablet lets you access the full suite of Surface Pen functionalities and information. Use your Surface Pen in any app that supports inking. The Surface Pro 6 of 2018 employed a 14nm Intel Core CPU, which was fine for the job (and arguably still is), but this CPU has brought that transistor size down to 10nm, which means more transistors in the same overall CPU die space. Basically, with more transistors comes better performance, and it shows in the numbers. Instead, it feels like Microsoft is far more inspired by its upcoming dual-screen devices, which will likely herald the future of the company’s hardware design – depending on how successful they are. The 256GB SSD in Microsoft's detachable transferred about 5GB of files at a decent 267MB per second, again trumping the Pro 6 (203) but falling behind the Dell's 512GB SSD (463). See Surface Battery Performance for details.All things considered, the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is one of the company’s most powerful Surface tablets. However, that boost in power appears to come at a cost to battery life. Your pen is receiving power and trying to pair with a device. Restart your Surface and try pairing it again.

Available colors for accessories and Type Cover (sold separately) may vary by market and configuration. Make sure Bluetooth is on, then select Add device. Choose Surface Pen in the list of devices. Follow any other instructions if they appear, then select Done. Important Make sure the Bluetooth is turned on your Surface by switching the Bluetooth toggle to on as in the picture above. It will take several seconds to discover the Surface Pen Bluetooth signal. Select the Surface Pen when it appears on the list of Bluetooth devices. If you’re willing to wait for those battery life improvements to come, and you don’t necessarily need all day staying power, then by all means jump in on the most technologically advanced Surface ever. But, know that those technological gains aren’t exactly massive, and come at the expense of other aspects of performance, specifically battery.
