About this deal

The history of The Band is, of course, inextricably tied to that of Bob Dylan. It was only fitting, then, that the current incarnation of The Band -- featuring original members Levon Helm, Rich Danko and Garth Hudson -- came together for a fine, loose-grooving version of "When I Paint My Masterpiece." The song was originally recorded with Leon Russell on piano in 1971 for "Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, Vol. II," the same year that it became a highlight of The Band's album "Cahoots."

The connections these artists had with Dylan were personal as well as musical. Dylan and Johnny Cash had been friends for most of the thirty years being celebrated. The Band were Dylan’s most important touring group. Harrison and Dylan had bonded in 1964, written together in 1969, enjoyed an unlikely smash with the Traveling Wilburys in 1988 and had last stood together on the Madison Square Garden stage at 1971’s Concert for Bangladesh – the mother of every subsequent all-star concert. No one knew this would be Harrison’s last major public performance. There was pure pleasure on George’s face as he played music he loved with his old friends. As Chrissie Hynde said on the night, “Hallelujah, Hare Krishna, Yeah Yeah Yeah!” Viewed anew from a 20-year perspective, Bob Dylan - The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration - Deluxe Editionis a remarkable testament to the enduring legacy and ongoing musical influence of Bob Dylan. These two young Dylan fans didn’t need any loud Seattle sonics to get across Dylan’s pointed protest classic from The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan. Vedder, who blissfully watched rehearsals for the concert from the front row of a nearly empty Madison Square Garden, proved with his wonderfully intense interpretation that when it comes to a great song, there’s no such thing as a generation gap.

and George Harrison makes his first U.S. concert appearance in 18 years with “Absolutely Sweet Marie.” As for the man of honor himself, Dylan began his own set with "Song To Woody," a moving composition from his debut album that remains a By Stephen Pate – This is the full concert listing from the LaserDisc and UK DVD of the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration.
