About this deal

I kept asking myself if a criminal mastermind would really expend so much time, effort and money on bringing down a few people rather than jetting off to the sun to enjoy his freedom? But again, there'd be no book without Faulkner sitting on a chair, stroking a white cat mumbling "mwah ha hah". ABOUT 'NEXT IN LINE': London, 1988. Royal fever sweeps the nation as Britain falls in love with the ‘people’s princess’. This is where it lost me - William is asked to investigate. Of course, all roads (or seas) lead to this being a murder and ultimately to his nemesis Faulkner and ever-present extremely annoying Booth-Watson.

The storyline features The Royalty Protection Command, who are entrusted with the safety of the Royal family, and they’re really going to have their work cut out in ‘Next in Line’, to protect one of their royals in particular. Overall, I found ‘Traitors Gate’ a great read that was exciting and entertaining. As I finished the novel I wanted to know more about the history of the characters and intend to read the series from the start. While William follows the trail of the missing masterpiece, he comes up against suave art collector Miles Faulkner and his brilliant lawyer, Booth Watson QC, who are willing to bend the law to breaking point to stay one step ahead of William. Meanwhile, Miles Faulkner’s wife, Christina, befriends William, but whose side is she really on? Maybe a timing issue for me, but this one didn't "ding as many dongs" as the other three books in the series for me.

I have long enjoyed the world of Jeffrey Archer, no matter what he has to offer. Strong storytelling, matched with a formidable presentation, leaves the reader to bask in a solid delivery. A narrative that withstands all that is tossed in its direction, Archer is able to craft what he wants and keep the reader pushing onwards towards a heightened final reveal. Short chapters help move things along, though it is the core story’s momentum that is the true mover and shaker herein. Despite the slow start - Archer setting the scene! - I soon became invested in the storyline. Anyone not familiar with this author's writing may see the first half of Next in Line as not having much happening because all the action takes place quite late in the book. But believe me, it's worth the wait. ABOUT 'OVER MY DEAD BODY': In London, the Metropolitan Police set up a new Unsolved Murders Unit—a cold case squad—to catch the criminals nobody else can.

The last Archer I read was Kane and Abel. I have to say the style seems remarkably similar from then to now despite an interval of 40 years. However I suppose when you're as popular as Mr Archer why change a winning formula? He has a way to introduce A Twist in the Tale ( no pun intended), but have always found his books fast paced having-meticulously planned plots, that hardly seems unreal. William and his wife are having a rare holiday on a luxury liner at someone else’s expense when he comes across a rich family whose grandson is very much like a young William with a curious mind. When the unthinkable happens William finds himself investigating a tragedy… Estate agent, car salesman, and funeral director. All of which we were fairly confident wouldn't be followed by never ending questions.' Many thanks to Harper 360/HarperCollins for the opportunity to read Next in Line in advance of its publication.THE UNPUTDOWNABLE THRILLER FROM THE BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE CLIFTON CHRONICLES – PERFECT FOR FANS OF KEN FOLLET, JOHN GRISHAM and DANIEL SILVA It’s 1988 and Britain is in the middle of their love affair with Diana, the People’s Princess. While many in the Royal Family prefer to keep a low profile, Diana attracts the flashbulb like none before her. This nothing new, but something is on the horizon, lowing the tabloids to feast on all the crumbs tossed their way. But this year, everything is about to change. Because a master criminal has set his sights on pulling off the most outrageous theft in history―and with a man on the inside, the odds are in his favor. Unless the team can stop him before it’s too late...
