About this deal

TF: Yes! People think that’s enough. Right? If I say, “Well look at all the women now,” they think they’ve done all the work and [the progress] stops. But what happens when we want to start creating spaces that are more accessible? I want to be able to get people involved that have physical disabilities, mental disabilities … true inclusivity is so much broader than we have ever imagined. This industry has not imagined how inclusive we can be. Brenne Ten Year and Brenne Estate are both single malt whiskeys. The key difference lies in their aging process and abv. Brenne Ten Year matures for a decade, resulting in a more complex and refined flavor profile. The Estate Cask variety ages between six and eight years. The abv of the Brenne Ten is 48 percent abv, higher than the Estate Cask bottle. Brenne is a French whiskey brand known for 100 percent organic single malt expressions that incorporate traditional techniques and terroir-focused production. Located in the heart of the Cognac region in France, it was established in 2012 with organic farming methods. TF: I think the topic of “women and whisky” stops further progress. We are focused on only that, and what has happened is that focus has brought up a lot of white women. Wherever there is a push for equality, white women will actually benefit first because it’s the most comfortable, there’s not as much risk. So, when do we really start to push and say, “Where is true diversity within the world of whisky?” because it hasn’t happened. I was looking at this 15 years ago and there has been little progress.

The aroma is a fruit salad of bananas, apricots, raisins, passion fruit and guava layered bubblegum and topped with vanilla frosting and Froot Loops. It’s so sweet it comes across more like a fortified dessert wine than a whisky to me. The nose lures you in with a compelling mingle of fruit-led aromas. Initially, you're greeted with a delightful scent of alpine strawberries and cream, coupled with a cheeky hint of candy floss. This playful start is softened by gentle waves of cinnamon spice, alongside drying notes of cut grass, adding an earthy balance. A final flourish of banana and tropical pineapple underscores the bouquet, wrapping up the nose profile with a sweet and exotic intrigue. The overall impression is a fusion of sweet, creamy, and earthy elements. Brenne 10 is better than the original Brenne which is among my least favorite single malts out there due to its intense sweetness. I’m not a fan of sweet things in general and the saccharine nature of the Brenne 10 and the original just don’t do it for me. All I ever taste is the overly sweet fruitiness from the sopping wet barrels they use to age their whisky in; it completely covers up anything I could really call “whisky flavors”. Cognac is a variety of brandy named after the town of Cognac, France. It's produced using specific types of grapes, primarily Ugni Blanc. The production process involves double distillation in copper pot stills and aging in Limousin or Tronçais oak casks for at least two years. Cognac's flavor profile typically includes notes of fruit, flowers, and spices. Fruit-forward and elegant, Brenne’s proud femininity is a direct reflection of Patel’s style of entrepreneurship.

Parc achieved a significant milestone in her career when she became the first woman to receive the "World Whisky Brand Ambassador of the Year" award from Whisky Magazine's Icons of Whisky, USA in 2017, 2018, and 2021. She's the only person to receive this prestigious honor three times. Ideally, I would love to see, 30 years from now, if people really embraced using 100% local ingredients in the making of their whiskwy, wouldn’t that be super cool? If we could have whiskey sommeliers, by smell and taste, tell you not just what style of whiskey they think it is, but where in the world they think it was made. Nicola Riske: I just knew that I had to work 10x harder, and that anything I said when presenting to anyone would be discounted if one man entered the room and said something different. While in France, Allison was introduced to a third-generation cognac producer distilling a single malt at his family-owned farm distillery in Cognac, France. Upon tasting the whisky, Allison knew the spirit was special, handing over her own savings to form a partnership. Allison suggested incorporating previously used cognac casks into the aging process, leading to a major breakthrough in the single malt’s flavor profile. She and the distiller worked to refine the spirit for the next few years, laying down more barrels with each harvest.

A velvety texture coats the mouth upon the first sip. The initial wave of sweetness tantalizes the taste buds, with notes of crème brûlée, blueberry muffin tops, honey, and toffee providing a luscious foundation. This richness is followed by a delightful interplay of spices, as hints of cinnamon and nutmeg add depth. As the journey continues, the palate is treated to a symphony of fruits, with tropical flavors like pineapple and mango mingling. The fruitiness is beautifully balanced by a gentle oakiness, adding layers of sophistication. Finish By the time Parc came along, the distiller had been making whisky for four years. By the time Brenne began bottling, Parc and the distiller were working with six- to eight-year-old whiskies. Brenne currently has two expressions: Brenne Estate Cask and Brenne Ten that come from those first barrels. Made in the French Cognac region, Brenne is not your everyday single malt. Most everything about it is local. The two types of heirloom barley are grown in the fields surrounding the distillery. A proprietary yeast strain is applied for fermentation. The inspiration behind this notion of identity and nontraditional whiskies was a sip of Yamazaki 18, a Japanese single malt. Patel describes herself as a “late bloomer” who didn’t try alcohol until well after most of her peers knew their way around a bar. But when the Japanese whisky hit her lips, the experience was her “hook.” When reviewing whiskey, consider several key factors. The appearance looks at the color and clarity of the whiskey. The nose evaluates the aroma, identifying any notes of fruits, spices, or other scents. The taste examines the flavor profile, including the balance of sweetness and bitterness. The mouthfeel considers the texture and viscosity of the whiskey on the palate. The finish refers to the lingering taste and sensations after swallowing. Brenne Estate Cask Single Malt

Single malt whiskey is a type of whiskey made exclusively from malted barley and produced at a single distillery. It's known for its distinct and rich flavors, often showcasing notes of malt, fruit, and spice. These whiskeys are often associated with regions like Scotland, where they originated, but single malt expressions are also made in the United States , Japan, and Ireland, among many other regions. We aren’t trying to replicate a Scotch whisky, but rather offer something completely new to the world of single malt,” she said. “Our barrels are new French Limousin oak and also Cognac barrels, so you get this whisky that has an incredible bouquet of fruit, floral, and creamy notes. What I love about these Cognac barrels is it punches up the fruit notes. So if you taste our distillate right off the still, we get a lot of ester molecules coming off these stills and tons of fruit notes in our distillate. Which, when the whisky just sat in the new French oak, those got quieted down and it was a lot more of this creme brûlée vanilla takeover, right? It’s delicious, that’s for sure. Light, crisp, and fruity. Easily sippable by itself, but I would caution that the lighter flavors might get lost among some of the common whiskey-associated activities (such as cigar smoking). Brenne French Single Malt Details

What sets Breene apart from many other whiskies are the ingredients. Everything is locally sourced, 100 percent organic and non-GMO. There are two types of heirloom barley used and grown in Cognac, France. The yeast strain is proprietary and has been in the distiller’s family for generations. The water to cut the proof is from the nearby Charente River. The whiskey is twice-distilled in an alembic Charente still at a family farm-distillery in the heart of Cognac region. More sugary sweet tropical fruit fades out painfully slow with some sour, ashy, funky and woody notes. Caramelized apple tart: The fruity and slightly floral notes of Brenne's single malts pair beautifully with the sweetness and tartness of a caramelized apple tart. The combination of flavors creates a delightful contrast and balance, making it a perfect dessert pairing. After retiring her pointe shoes at age 23, Allison indulged in food and drink previously restricted by her ballet lifestyle. In the years that followed, she began to build an import/export portfolio of craft spirits. Simultaneously, she set out to create a new whisky that reflected the region in which it was crafted, identifying France as the right place to build her brand. Brenne is not just about great whiskey; it's also about social responsibility. The distillery commits to sustainable farming practices and eco-friendly production processes, reinforcing its dedication to producing high-quality, authentic French whiskey with respect for the environment. Their seed-to-spirit philosophy and terroir-driven profiles give an exciting and unique perspective on single malts. Both whiskey beginners and connoisseurs will appreciate the commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability. A Short History of French Whiskey Production
