As a parent, demonstrating good role modelling and talking about the hazards we are exposed to in everyday life, supports your child in learning about their environment and the risks they need to manage as they grow. It is not about removing all hazards entirely, this is impossible, it is about teaching them about how the hazards affect them and making the right choices to control their impact. Take a few playdough or biscuit cutters with you to the beach or outside in your sand pit. Show your baby how they can use the cutters to make shapes in the sand! Talk to your baby about the cutters they are using Whilst cooking, children will hear and develop new vocabulary, for example ingredients they may not have heard of and skills they have not used before such as “peel”, “sieve”, “whisk” and “combine”. These opportunities will support your child learning and using new words.

During cooking, children will have the opportunity to use both their fine and gross motor skills, for example chopping, stirring, whisking, cutting, sieving and pouring. All these experiences will support children in developing the control and muscle movements that are needed for handwriting. In 2019 we launched our Safety with Buzz programme to support the development of children’s understanding of health, safety and wellbeing Developed in partnership with speech and language advisors ICAN, our bespoke programme supports your child’s communication and language skills in nursery and at home, including supporting those with communication difficulties. In 2015 Busy Bees co-founders Marg Randles and John Woodward were awarded the OBE for services to childcare and educationWith over 400 active and healthy activities, we focus on your child’s gross and fine motor development. In 2021, two Busy Bees educators were invited to a Downing Street reception to recognise their dedication throughout the pandemic Sharing Best Practice Globally - we spend time immersed in our nursery settings to ensure we can share best practice globally and provide your child with the best start in life. Gross motor movement - written by Laurissa Hyner-Anderson; academic researcher and gymnastics teacher, and Kenny Churchill; educator and Paralympic gold medalist. Strictly stars James and Ola Jordan were inspired to make spoon people with their daughter Ella as part of a Busy Bees survey into craft activities and messy playBy being able to make their own food, your child will have a great sense of pride and achievement. They will learn new skills and develop their independence and willingness to ‘have a go’. Working alongside a qualified Makaton tutor, our educators and parents are taught Makaton signs to help support your child’s communication development.

Physical opportunities help children to feel good about themselves and can help to elevate their mood. When we exercise, our bodies release hormones called endorphins; the body's way of helping us feel great! Invite your child to help you make a start and finish line in your garden; with a couple of pieces of clothing, a tea towel or a piece of garden equipment. Following this, explain that we are going to take part in different races.
