The UX999 Plus comes with the usual suite of pre-installed apps, including Google Maps, Chrome and the Play Store, plus some common apps have also been pre-installed including YouTube, Waze, Disney+, HBO Max, Spotify, Netflix and VLC. Just like the Ultra, there’s a new Android 12 option to toggle system-wide dark and light modes from the app menu screen.
Family Enjoyment: With the multimedia options and phone mirroring, your family can enjoy a vast range of entertainment options on the go.Unlike the MMB Max, I couldn’t get video casting to work with either my iPhone or Android, device, and after a good 30 minutes of trying, I soon gave up. Video casting on these adapters can be hit and miss at the best of times, so I find for the best experience, it’s best to play video directly from an installed Android app instead. Although it might look a little similar to CarlinKit’s earlier T-Box branded CarPlay AI Boxes, inside things are a little different. The Plus features an Android 11 operation system, 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM, a fast 8-core Qualcomm 6125 CPU and an Adreno 610 GPU. There is also the usual 4G LTE SIM and SD card slots for local internet and added storage of up to 128GB. You can also pair a wireless Bluetooth remote to navigate the AI Box from a distance from your screen or if your CarPlay system doesn’t have touchscreen input, to make navigation and control a little faster. Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto CarPlay support either comes as standard or is available as an option on many new 2016 cars and later, with some manufacturers offering software updates for earlier models. Only 4 of the 11 finalists offered video casting support, with varying performance. The same number offered HDMI output to display content onto a separate screen, and just 1 offered HDMI input to allow the use of stream boxes or game consoles on your CarPlay display. The dongle comes with a GPS module upgrade, which means there is no more external GPS module required and the built-in module works faster. The device is more convenient for beginners to install for the first time. So I fired up the Geekbench app to see if it performed just the same. After running its single core, multicore and GPU benchmark tests, it came out just a little ahead as the fastest AI Box I have tested, but there is very little between them, so I would say it has the same identical hardware inside as the M.I.C. adapter, which is a good thing for viewers in the US or Canada, as the M.I.C. is hard to source outside of Europe. HDMI Display Output However this is likely to change going forward, with Apple announcing a new version of CarPlay at WWDC 2022. That version was originally scheduled to arrive sometime in 2023, but has been completely absent so far — and failed to make an appearance at WWDC 2023. A large number of apps are compatible with CarPlay, and unsurprisingly include many of Apple's own. Maps, Phone, Messages, Music and so on are all available, but there are a lot more third-party CarPlay apps as well.Siri is a very important part of the CarPlay system, since it enables you to control what's going on using your voice. That way your hands can stay on the wheel, and you won't be blindly tapping at a touchscreen. Apple TV also includes built-in support for AirPlay, so you can mirror any AirPlay-compatible content from your iPhone to the iDrive screen with SmartView HD Apple TV4.
Over other lower-performing dongles, there is certainly more grunt under the hood than the Mini and Max-AI Boxes, but sadly there is the same concern about its own Wi-Fi performance, which really lets it down for use with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Its mirror casting is also affected by this with poor out-of-sync audio and at times I couldn’t even get it to work properly. Its YouTube app runs in full-screen tablet mode, which isn’t as nice as the same app on some other AI Boxes. The T-Box Plus also has the same issue where it can’t update to the latest version of Netflix, so you’ll have to look at sideloading any updates to access any new app features instead. At The Same Time, It Can Be Connected To A TV, Monitor, Projector, And A Mouse And Keyboard When Traveling To Fully Experience The Android 11 System On The Big Screen. Of course, playing music and videos with help of a USB port is another feature that is useful if you are going on a long drive.Being able to play Youtube and Netflix, or play Android games on the CarPlay display can have its advantages whilst waiting for your EV to charge, or if you’re waiting in your car for long periods of time.
