Osprey is based in Cortez, Colorado. The company is surrounded by some of the most inspiring landscapes on earth! How could they not be inspired? The Osprey Fairview 40 has a decent sternum strap. The strap actually looks a little flimsy, but it does a surprisingly good job of adding extra weight distribution across your chest. The padded straps are comfortable and the supportive internal frame makes the bag pleasant to wear. There is a sternum strap that can be adjusted to sit higher or lower. This is a huge plus for people with larger chests. The entire exterior of the bag is durable, textured 450D recycled twist dobby polyester. It’s bluesign® approved—yay!—and coated with a PFAS-free durable water repellant to keep your gear dry.As we’ve already mentioned, at 54cm x 35cm x 23cm the Osprey Farpoint 40 fits within the carry on luggage specifications for most airlines. This is great if you don’t trust airlines with your stuff, or if you just don’t want to mess about at the luggage carousel after every flight.

The hip strap is also hiking grade. And even though this isn’t the best hiking bag, it does provide excellent hip support. That makes it a great choice for walking around cities and general traveling. Sternum Strap with a Rescue Whistle On the durability and convenience front, the Fairview continues to shine. I’ve used it consistently and it’s yet to show any wear, living up to my expectations of the brand.There are internal and external compression straps on theFarpoint. The internal straps are for squashing your luggage down and holding it in place. I have to be honest and say, I never actually use these. I tied mine up the first time I used the bag and haven’t touched them since. My girlfriend, however, used the ones in her Fairview all the time and wouldn’t stop raving about them. However, I don’t think the difference between the Farpoint and the Fairview is really all that considerable if you’re over 5’5″. I’d recommend that women 5’5″ and taller try both the Fairview and the Farpoint to decide which one feels best. Something to note about all these straps: none but the front compression straps include keepers, so you’ll potentially have a lot of excess dangling if you need to cinch things up tightly. Not a deal breaker, just something to note. If that bugs you, look for a strap management system, like VELCRO Brand Cable Ties. Osprey Fairview 40 | Fabric unrolls to hide away the straps. The sternum strap keeps the shoulder straps in place and the load lifters help keep the top of the bag nicely in line with your body.

But there are some issues to look out for before investing in this as your next travel companion. And this wouldn’t be an exhaustive Osprey Fairview review without talking about the pros and cons. An In-Depth Review Of The Osprey Fairview 40 The Good Bits of the Osprey Fairview 40 Suitcase-Style Opening The ad shows someone storing their sunglasses here, and it’s definitely the perfect size for this, but I wouldn’t recommend this. That’s an easy way to crush your sunglasses. Like the Farpoint, the Osprey Fairview comes in three capacities, 40L, 55L, and 70L. We tested the original 40L version for several months and continue to use that size in the updated design. When I’m walking around town or on a short nature walk, I often store my phone in here while listening to music, so I can stroll around hands-free. Internal Front Flap Zippered Mesh Compartment This bag’s compliant with global carry-on luggage standards. The bag is less than 22 inches, making it a safe choice for your carry-on. The placement is also a bitawkward. Once your laptop is in the sleeve, it prevents the bag from bulging as much as usual. This causes you to lose a small amount of valuable space.
