Show your class a box of crayons – some broken, some stubby, some whole, and some with the wrappers taken off. Ask the children to talk in pairs or groups about why the crayons look like this: As the name suggests, Light Hot Pink is essentially a diluted, pastel version of hot pink. This color is probably what most people would picture when imagining a pale pink. There’s enough green and blue present to create just a hint of a cool undertone, but Light Hot Pink isn’t purple in the slightest. Bright pink is a vibrant, rich pink color that is a little lighter and cooler than neon pink and warmer and brighter than dark pink. Ask the children to pretend they are an item in their pencil case. They could be a rubber, a pencil sharpener, a pair of scissors, and so on. Old Rose is one of the many muted, mauve-like shades of pink out there. The name is especially fitting, as it’s very similar to the color of a pink rose as it starts to wilt. Its vintage appeal makes it ideal for historically-inspired projects. It’s also a great accent color against paler neutrals like taupe, ivory, and light gray. Though it’s much more pink than the red glow of a strawberry, Wild Strawberry has a bright and cheerful spirit that can add life to any project. This dusty shade of pink does get somewhat close to the color of rose gold used in jewelry. It looks especially nice beside ivory and pale gray. Purple Crayon wags a finger, looking stern. Its slightly dusky quality makes it look especially good in patterns with cocoa browns or soft, pale grays.
