About this deal

Using sophisticated on-camera technology, Home Monitor detects motion in its field of view and then immediately springs in to action. Set up multiple custom motion zones, on areas such as doorways, to make sure you only get alerted when you want to be. The Y-Cam Evo is one of the smallest and most discreet cameras I’ve reviewed. The main camera is a minuscule 2-inch white cube. The setup process requires next to no physical effort. All you have to do is screw the main camera unit onto a bundled stand and connect it to the mains using a Micro USB cable and transformer. It can then either be set freestanding on a bit of furniture, or attached to a wall using screws/rawl plugs, which are all included in the box. The Evo’s stand is also magnetic, which makes it easy to attach it to metal surfaces.

Due to the nature of digital technology, there comes a point where a product or software can’t be developed any further and it is no longer possible to provide further support. This applies to most, if not all digital technologies including phones and apps for example. When this happens, in the best interests of our customers, we have to change the platforms we use. This unfortunately means that some of our Y-cam products have reached the end of their life and it’s no longer viable for these products to continue to operate on their existing platforms. This communication is effective from Friday 31 March 2023 and is to inform you that your Y-cam cameras have reached end of life. Its overall appeal is slightly let down by connection speed issues, which make accessing the camera’s live feed and stored recordings a bit of a faff. I can’t help but wish Y-Cam would open the Evo up and let me tie it to my home NAS Drive, or a separate cloud storage provider. The HomeMonitor Indoor HD shoots, you guessed it, HD-quality video. It’s not 1080p Full HD – it records 720p through a wide-angle lens and, unfortunately, the quality isn’t great. Moving the wireless router to a different position may help. Try walking around with the router while monitoring the signal strength to get the best signal.

The second con – if it is a con – is that there’s no alternative choice of storage. You can’t put a memory card inside the camera as you can with the You can enable the alarm using the key fob or app. When it turns on, a clear voice from the Hub lets you know that the alarm is on. Following the beeping, you’re given enough time to get out of the house before the alarm is finally alarmed. Bullet HD, Bullet HD 1080, Bullet Range, Cube 1080p, Cube 720p, Cube HD 1080, Cube VGA, Dome Range, HD720, Other I did also suffer ongoing poor cloud connectivity throughout my three weeks testing the Evo. With the Y-Cam Evo I found the old adage “you get what you pay for” is definitely true when it comes to remote monitoring services.

I’m a little sad it doesn’t have the facial-recognition powers of the Netatmo Welcome, which lets the camera know to ignore registered, safe people, but its location recording powers partly make up for that deficiency. Location recording is an optional feature that lets you instruct the Y-Cam to start recording when you leave your flat and stop when you return, by using your phone’s GPS. Add extra HomeMonitor™ cameras to your account anytime. You can even add cameras from different locations to one account so you can control, manage and view your home, garden, office, driveway, holiday home - wherever! Upgrading to Plus is well-worth it. Home broadband isn’t hugely reliable and you’d be surprised at how often your Hub loses connection. With mobile data, you know that your home will remain protected and that you’ll definitely get alerts. And, once you’ve upgraded, you get the 30-days of cloud storage from your cameras, which largely negates the fact that Y-Cam withdrew its free cloud storage offering. The resolution indicates the size of image that is captured by the camera, the larger the image the clearer the image will appear. Higher resolution cameras are ideal when viewing footage on a large TV screen. Lower resolution cameras are perfect for viewing high definition video on your smartphone or tablet. Unlike other cloud cameras that charge monthly fees, every HomeMonitor camera stores unlimited recorded clips in to your online account for the last 7 days - no subscriptions required!
