human flesh -- to find its next fix. The drugs are scattered all over the park, and they are also all over some of the people in the park. As the bear resolution allows for more intricate clarity that does not make new information appear, but that renders the information that is here more readily The 1080p transfer is impressively handled with clear and sharp visuals throughout. The forest scenes are particularly impressive as every leaf, twig, and plant comes into perfect focus. As of this writing, I’ve been reviewing movies for nearly twenty five years. In that time I’ve seen some truly great films, some good ones, bad ones and some awful ones. So what was I to think when a movie with the title Cocaine Bear was released? My knee jerk reaction says it has “guilty pleasure” written all over it. But the film does have roots in history. Yes, the events in this film actually happened (to an extent, I’m sure a lot of creative liberties were taken). I recall an interview with director Elizabeth Banks who remarked that “…this could be a career ender.” And she’s right. But I will say that some of the more enjoyable films out there are those that poke fun at themselves and/or their genre. Yes, The Meg, Crawl and Lake Placid all share similarities to this one so if any of those were up your alley – you’ll be high on life. Cocaine Bear comes with an English DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 mix that is downmixed to 5.1 on my configuration. This mix has deep, resounding low end, and wide panning across the front. The dynamics are excellent, and dialogue is clear over the fray of audio effects. The Supplements

Alternate Ending – In the “not so different, yet it doesn’t make sense” category we’ve got this. About a 20 second “alternate ending” that had me scratching my head. definitely more of a fine tuning than it is a complete overhaul, no surprise considering that the Blu-ray was awarded a perfect core for its 1080p UnBEARable Bloodbath: Dissecting the Kills – From rigging to special effects makeup, to some of the actors doing their own stunts, we’ll get a bears-eye view into some of the hilarious and gory kill scenes. That movie was Grizzly, and along with the likes of Piranha, Squirm, Empire of the Ants, Alligator and Day of the Animals (where an enraged and topless Leslie Nielsen wrestles a bear during a thunderstorm – no, really!) formed a movement of ‘nature run amok’ movies, each successive one being of a lower quality than the last, culminating in the roaring, performing rubber shark of Jaws: The Revenge in 1987. And whilst the deliberately (so they say) bad run of CGI hybrid creature features that SyFy and The Asylum brought to the public’s attention in the 2000s continues to this day, the novelty factor that made them famous has become somewhat nauseating. All Roads Lead To Cokey (HD, 10 Mins.) - A brief EPK type of feature that includes cast and crew interviews, the true story that inspired the film, the performances, characters, and the bear itself. Taken together, there’s plenty of interesting material contained in those two true stories that could be used to craft a genuinely fascinating feature film—and that’s not even including some of the bizarre ancillary stories surrounding what came to be known as the “Bluegrass Conspiracy.” A few weeks after Thornton’s body was discovered, a single-engine plane owned by Atlanta real estate developer David “Cowboy” Williams crashed, killing Williams, the pilot, and 15 other skydivers. The fuel tanks were contaminated by sugar and water, and while the plane had previously been grounded due to contamination concerns, the timing of the accident immediately created suspicions that it might have been sabotage by the drug smuggling operation. Williams and Thornton were known associates of each other, so the accident may not have been a coincidence. Truth is often stranger than fiction, and chronicling the events surrounding the demise of Andrew C. Thornton II could have made for a truly gripping feature film. Day One on the 4K. Give it a few weeks and Violent Night will be here. With VN, all four movies that Uni sat on will finally have 4K releases on this side of the pond. Cocaine Bear is on 4K Ultra HD™ from Mediumrare Entertainment and is available from the 29 th May 2023 Cocaine Bear was shot using the ARRIRAW 4.5K digital source with Arri Alexa LF and Arri signature Prime lenses. Theatrically it had a 4K digital intermediate which, while no other information could be found about what the source of this discs’ image could be, it seems reasonable to assume is the source of the 3840 x 2160p resolution image in a theatrically accurate 2.39:1 aspect ratio that also utilises 10-bit video depth, WCG and a HDR10 grade (no Dolby Vision), all of which has been encoded using the HEVC/H.265 video codec.Eric Clapton should create a sequel song to his adaptation of the 1976 hit song by J.J. Cale, Cocaine, with new lyrics about bears doing cocaine. He should call it Cocaine Bear and base it on the absurd, funny hit film of the same name. Cocaine Bear truly lives up to its title about a bear that does an obscene amount of that Snow White dust but fails to really hold a story or forward any character. It simply exists to entertain and that's just fine. And much hilarity ensues as the fairly serious combination of a worried mother looking for her missing children, an angry drug dealer looking for his stash and a dogged detective hoping to make an arrest clashes head-on with the idea of a huge wild bear off its nut on cocaine. There are plenty of laughs as the bear rips limbs from torsos, young children find a bag of coke, identify it as cocaine and instantly sample it to see what happens, and Daveed and Eddie take a very emotional hostage to lead them to where the drugs are, but despite the movie being enjoyable, superbly shot and the CGI bear not as off-putting as it could have been, there is the feeling that it doesn’t quite go far enough.

Though not a fault of the transfer, the CGI effects (particularly the bear) are a bit sketchy. After all, there's no way to hide budget effects in a 1080p transfer. There's also a piece on the cast, a making of featurette about the film's numerous bloody kills, a gag reel, and more. Cocaine Bear 4K Blu-ray delivers truly amazing video and audio in this fan-pleasing Blu-ray release
