I always wanted to please them [his parents]. I'm not sure if I ever succeeded, but I remember clearly wanting them to be pleased and proud of me. . . . Perhaps that is why I developed a tendency to show off. They never seemed pleased or impressed with what I did, so I indulged in extravagant and stupid behavior to try and gain their attention. He was also enlightened by his childhood memories and how he connects with his friends who were Mole, Rat, and Badger.

After less than an hour, patients will get off from the drug’s effects and find themselves feeling normal again. In this brief blog, we have talked about the book titled Counselling For Toads, review about Counselling for Toads, the meaning in Counselling for Toads, and more information about Counselling for Toads. Over the course of ten sessions, which correspond to chapters of the book, a very depressed Toad learns how to analyse his own feelings and develop his emotional intelligence using the language and ideas of transactional analysis. He meets his 'rebellious child' and his 'adult' along the way and by the end of the book, Toad is setting out on a completely new adventure - as debonair as he ever was. What I liked: Being someone who is fascinated in the counselling process, I loved the way a story that could be read to a child explained the counselling process as a method of dealing with psychological distress. Plus it’s given me an urge to re-read Wind in the Willowswith new eyes!I didn’t dislike anything but I see the counselling journey as far more muddy than outlined here. That said the conciseness of the book captures TA’s essence and keeps the story engaging. Participants of the study where guided in taking this medication and they were monitored by a facilitator. Davis explains this metaphor indicating that the medication does have a side effect which is physical immobility for 20 to 30 minutes. Ideal Xmas or Birthday present for counsellors—aspiring or fully trained. Light work with a serious message. As the reader learns about Toad, the story sheds light on our own lives, psychological growth and development. It particularly highlights how to recognise depression, how talking therapy may benefit someone who is depressed, as well as what people can do for themselves.

I would recommend this book to any counsellor or counselling student. Or indeed anyone going through counselling themselves. He was able to go through his own psychological development which can inspire readers to seek their own psychological growth and development as well. Friendly introduction to the ideas behind counselling, suitable for voluntary organizations, schools, social work departments, hospitals, etc. A book which a counsellor could give to a client. Many libraries, both public & institutional should find a place for it on their shelves. Drawing on the figure of Toad, who is a rather pompous yet affectionate character who has fallen into depression, de Board takes us on a journey through the theory of Eric Berne’s classical transactional analysis. Toad goes to see Heron, the local counsellor, who is a gentle, kind, thoughtful, serious yet confrontational person, the type of person one would hope to meet in a counsellor. The theory is described clearly yet convincingly through the client/counsellor relationship with plentiful uses of metaphor, good humour, and irony that make us smile indulgently, not only at Toad but also at ourselves at times as we recognise some of our own frailties." - Helena Hargaden, psychotherapist, counsellor, and transactional analyst, author of Transactional Analysis: A Relational Perspective Heron gave Toad some psychoeducation where he was able to learn about his psychological processes and emotional intelligence.

Robert de Board. Counselling for Toads: A Psychological Adventure. London and New York: Routledge, 1997. For anyone wishing to know something about Transactional Analysis this is a clear and very readable introduction. -- The Friend This book will be appealing to children and adults of all ages, either as a continuation of life at Toad Hall or as an insight into being a student, client or counsellor and is respectful of the spirit of Kenneth Grahame’s original novel. It’s a must read for anyone interested either in the counselling process or in getting to know themselves a little bit better! Robert de Board is the writer of the Counselling for Toads book which he made as a narrative of his counselling experiences as a client and a counsellor.
