About this deal

I've also included pictures of the layout part of the assembly process, I know pictures help me more than text sometimes. You list polyurethane in the materials section, but this tool doesn't look finished? What gives? Answer - I need to stop using it for a couple days so I can take it apart and put a coat of poly on it to make it last longer! If your tape measure includes markings for millimeters, these will produce the most accurate results.

Subtract the end gap widths from space width before making your selections. For example, if the space width is 4' and if you want end gaps of 1/2" for fasteners, select 3' 11" for space width (4' - 1/2" - 1/2" = 3' 11"). Step #6: Divide the result in Step #5 (34) by the number of dividers plus one (8 + 1 = 9), which equals 3.78 decimal inches (~ 3 3/4"). This means you will create 9 spaces of 3 3/4" with the 8 dividers. I see that in your instructions, you say that you use a magnet to hold the material in position. Why? Step #7: Add the space width (Step #6) to the divider width (Step #2) to get the on-center measurement needed to mark the dividers' placement.

Select the feet, inches, and fraction of inch distance between the two boundaries of the space the dividers will span. Since this calculator has been tested to work with many setup and entry combinations, I probably won't be able to find and fix the problem without knowing your set-up and the data you entered into the calculator. Fits Any Application]: 8 marking notch points on each side (16 total); Extends to 24 inches (61 cm) with marking notches from 4 to 24 inches (10.2-61 cm); 24.75 inch (62.9 cm) overall fully extended length with 3.6 inches (9.1 cm) maximum distance between points

Step #2: Measure the actual width of the dividers. If the width varies slightly, determine the average width. If you are spacing fasteners, the divider width will be zero. If you gave the calculator less than "A", please help me improve the calculator by telling me what I would need to do for it to earn an "A". Step #1: Measure the distance the evenly spaced dividers will be spanning (e.g., from post to post, the bottom of the top shelf to the top of the bottom shelf, etc.).Enter the maximum number of dividers you want to be included in the generated list of even spacing options. Step #4

Subtract the end gap widths from space width before making your selections. For example, if the space width is 1219 and if you want end gaps of 12 for fasteners, enter 1195 for space width (1219 - 12 - 12 = 1195). In the pivoting version this is less of a thing since the tips angle sideways instead of slide up and down.

Plus, a printable diagram will be generated when you select a spacing option, including the near side, on-center, and far side measurements in inches, feet-and-inches, or metric (mm, cm, etc.).

OK, that's it for today. Thanks for reading along with me as I learned how this divider tool worked and please consider voting for this Instructable in the Remix Contest! The Equal Space Divider is manufactured in our Strongsville, Ohio factory, just south of Cleveland. Proudly Made in the USA! Woah, they cost how much? That's ridiculous... They don't look that hard to build, it's like 3 different parts and some bolts?! I'd even bet someone else has already done it. To the internets! So sometimes I want to be lazy and don't want to math when laying out a project. Judge away, but you know you've been there too... The newest addition to the outfit’s OneTIME Tool line, the contraption gives you a measuring tool for easily marking six equally-spaced sections on any surface. Even better, you can specify the exact distance between the sections, allowing you to make precise measurements without having to do a whole lot of mental math like you normally would when using a standard tape measure.IMPORTANT: Numeric entry fields must not contain dollar signs, percent signs, commas, spaces, etc. (only digits 0-9 and decimal points are allowed). Use the following calculator to convert feet, inches, and fractional inches to decimal inches (rounded to four places). Feet: In case you were wondering, that is the official metric spelling of "laser." Trust me, I'm an engineer... Loctite the chicago screws once you're happy with everything. This will keep them from loosening as you open and close the tool. (A dab will do, go easy on the loctite!) However, it was a really useful tool to have before I broke it. I still want one! So I took the basic geometry from Mike's tool and made my own, replacing the rivets with chicago screws.
