About this deal

I’ve been a cheerleader. A corporate executive. A Barbie Doll. A sportscaster. A soap opera vixen. A sideline reporter. A Playboy cover model. A Diamond Diva. A red-carpet correspondent. An investigative journalist. A disrupter. But I felt like she skipped over a lot. For example, she doesn't say anything about having been on Sports Gals until she quotes someone else mentioning it. Even then, it feels like a mere footnote -- only getting one paragraph -- when she claims it was the first sports talk show hosted solely by women? Tell us more! Often it felt like the reader was given a pretty broad-strokes view when a closer look at her experiences would have been welcome. The ensuing interview was scheduled for 20 minutes, but at the finish line Bonds said he wanted to keep going. They wound up with 80 minutes that aired over several nights. It was the first time any journalist had asked Bonds, on camera, if he’d ever taken steroids. (For the record, Bonds responded that he took creatine, protein pills and amino acids.)

But even as a little girl, I knew there was something different about the way people would stare at my mom. With her full lips, high cheekbones, dark eyes, olive skin, and long brown hair, she stood out from all the other moms in the neighborhood. People would stop her on the street and say, “You look like Sophia Loren.” I’d hold her hand and look up at these strange faces staring at her. I had an urge to protect her from everyone who gazed her way.

INTERVIEW: INSIDE EDITION'S LISA GUERRERO VENTURES INTO DIY WITH NEW BOOK". Shasie's World. October 28, 2016. A few minutes later, I stood outside the courthouse, reporting on the latest development in Juliette’s story (the final chapter would come when Dustin was sentenced to eighty years to life). Later that night, when I returned to my hotel, I sobbed as the enormity of the day hit me. I wasn’t sure yet. But I told him I’d like to meet and interview Monica and see where the story would lead. When Charles Lachman, our executive producer, gave it the green light, I headed to Gering, the remote town in Nebraska where Juliette had lived and died. I met with Monica, and we toured the home where Juliette had been killed. Then Monica played me the tape recording of her conversation with Doug Warner, the district attorney handling the case. Pedersen, Erik (June 12, 2022). " 'RuPaul's Drag Race' & 'Top Chef' Lead Critics Choice Real TV Awards". I liked the book most when Guerrero was detailing her experiences working for the Falcons and then the Patriots. I also was eager to hear how she'd describe her experience on Monday Night Football. And I certainly felt for her when she talked about some of the big, hard things happening in her personal life. Finally, after months of chasing leads, we discovered where the three suspects were living: Charyse Geurts, the mom, had moved outside Green Bay, Wisconsin, while her ex-boyfriend Dustin Chauncey (who wasn’t the twins’ father) and the third adult, Brandon Townsend, had relocated to separate towns in Colorado. I love how she didn't shy away from some of the deep and heartbreaking moments she encompassed upon in her life. Lisa is an inspiration to many, and I highly recommend this book to anyone & everyone! She says that in her book, she documents some of the pressures and cruelty she faced during her tenure with Fox Sports and her tumultuous one-year run on Monday Night Football. She says that she was harassed and mistreated by network executives, producers, and even fellow on-air talent. It went beyond the normal machismo and catcalls, and it affected her emotionally. That’s why she chose to write about her experiences. This is a mixed bag. Some very interesting stories combined with the author's skimming over important life details, then spending too much time complaining about the consequences she suffered from making very bad decisions. It makes for a quirky, entertaining and worthwhile book, but it doesn't have the kind of impact Lisa Guerrero wants and detracts from any credibility she thinks she has as a so-called "investigative journalist." The book owes its title to Lucy. It’s from all those times her mother reminded Lisa that her last name, Guerrero, was Spanish for warrior.

Guerrero was nominated for a Prism Award for her story on the dangers of alcohol and boating. She was also nominated for a Genesis Award nomination for her investigation into horse slaughter farms in Florida.

During her career in sports broadcasting, Guerrero covered Super Bowls, Worlds Series, NBA Finals, and interviewed sports superstars. From the outside it seemed glamourous, but often she was miserable, told to smile more, argue less, and show a lot of leg and cleavage. Colleagues would joke--sometimes on national TV--that she clinched big interviews because of sexual acts rather than talent. She made a mistake on air during the opening game on Monday Night Football that cost her her sportscasting career... and almost her life. We found the apartment building where Charyse lived. When she returned from a night shift, I raced up to her car as she opened the door. I wedged my body in between her and the open door. If she decided to drive off, she’d have to take me with her.
