Even though the manual assumes you are running an Ender 3, the information is a lot more helpful compared to getting no information, like with the Artillery All-Metal Extruder. First, search for CUSTOM_MACHINE_NAME within the configuration.h file and change the value from your printer to "My Personal Hell", "Hell", or something to that effect. You can also flip off Creality or praise Jyers. This is mandatory. You cannot go on using my tutorial unless you do this crucial part. And I imaging that to be able to do this you need to be at a “Developer level” to understand how to do this correctly.

The new design works very well, and provides superior grip on the filament. Unfortunately, there are a few design flaws of this extruder which will cause it to wear over time: Plug in the SD card and turn the printer on. This will trigger the board firmware update and the firmware will be flashed. It takes around 30 seconds. IdeaMaker Klipper Profile for Ender 3 S1 One of the most attractive features of the Creality Sprite Pro Extruder is its weight and size. Yes, there are lighter and more compact extruders out there, but the Sprite Extruder comes with a more powerful Nema 17 extruder motor and the hotend is included in the extruder design.First, let’s talk about the hotend part. In the case of the Sprite Pro Extruder, the heat break is made from titanium and it’s all metal. The heatsink is made from aluminum and it’s cooled by the tiny radial fan on the side. Honestly, this design is pretty smart and I found that it works quite well during operation. Thermal shots are available below, to also judge the thermal efficiency of this solution. The build process will start and when finished, the firmware will be ready to install. For the Creality Ender 3 S1, we need to install it from the SD card. Ender 3 with STM32F401 chip The metal dual-gear upgrade requires setting the E-steps due to the smaller radius of the toothed gear. One of the hardware features which makes the Ender 3 S1 such a good machine is the Sprite Extruder and Creality is also selling this as an upgrade for other machines. As you can see in the images below, the heat break heatsink reached a temperature of ~41C which is better than I was expecting. It seems that the tiny radial part cooling paired with the airflow over the heatsink gives excellent results. The environmental temperature was ~21C.

Efficient heat dissipation ensures worry-free printing. Optimised dual fans cool the component and thus increase its stability. You are wasting money if you can’t do some Marlin programming, otherwise it’s best features are unusable The Sprite extruder-only upgrade requires a different e-step value, which is a setting that controls how far the printer needs to turn the extruder motor to extrude a certain amount of filament. You can configure the e-steps for the Sprite extruder using this process: It’s a complete direct drive print head with good printing performance, capable of reaching up to 300C. And probably the most important feature is the easy upgrade path for Creality machines. You can easily install this on most Ender 3s in less than 30 minutes. On other machines, the time required for the upgrade should be similar and you will probably spend more time building a new firmware to accommodate the changes.

Note that the Sprite is an integrated unit that includes both the extruder and hot end. In the original version of the Sprite, the hot end uses a short PTFE tube section and is able to print at up to 260° C. There is also a Pro version with an all-metal hot end, described in the next section. The hot end uses the standard nozzles found on many of Creality’s Bowden hot ends—a definite plus over some other designs that use non-standard nozzle threading. The use of gears with a gear ratio of 3.5:1, which perfectly matches the motor, enables an extrusion force of up to 80N (depending on the filament) and more precise control of filament retraction.

Remove the PTFE coupler from the top of the hot end using the larger side of the wrench. Make sure you have unloaded any filament before this step. You may need to heat the hot end to remove the tubing. The dual drive extruder replaces the toothed gear and idler of the single gear design with two hobbed gears, which each have a concave toothed section for gripping the filament and are connected with gear teeth on the bottom so they simultaneously apply pressure to the filament from both sides. One gear is mounted directly to the motor shaft, and the other uses an internal bearing to rotate freely. Both gears are made of steel and are unlikely to experience wear issues. This extruder is seen on Creality’s premium 3D printers, including the CR-10S Pro, Ender 6, and CR-X Pro. Heat the nozzle by navigating to Prepare » Preheat PLA. Watch the temperature display on the printer and confirm that it heats up to the chosen temperature and maintains it. This confirms that the hot end is still wired properly and that nothing was damaged during the installation process. The simpler design means they are typically less expensive and result in a lower total printer cost. Klipperis an open-source firmware for your 3D printer that combines the power of a Raspberry Piand your printer mainboard for better printer control. By doing this, you are able to run your printer at higher speeds with better precision and control. Why Install Klipper on Creality Ender 3 S1? Does require a bit of tweaking of the printer configuration to get Z offset and Steps/mm correctly but there's plenty of videos on youtube. Hardware wise its a fairly straight foward install.

Creality Sprite Pro Extruder Review: Full Upgrade Kit

Another thing you may want to change (after troubleshooting) is the PROBING_MARGIN. I measured the range the clips occupied and it was about 2cm, so I left it at that. In this article, we will take a look at all of the extruders that are used on Creality printers, how they work, issues we have discovered, and whether we recommend upgrading them.Inside the Titan extruder, the extruder gear is connected to the separate motor shaft through a gear system with a gear ratio of 3:1. Like the single-gear Bowden designs, the filament is driven on one side, while the other side is held by a freely rotating idler pulley. Below the gear, the filament path is fully enclosed, which is important to prevent jamming when printing with flexible filaments like TPU.
