About this deal

This book was supposed to be a psychological thriller. A lady who is being sexually harassed at work gets the chance to have anyone she wants "disappear". I liked the idea. The problem was the heroine, Sarah. She had to be the biggest loser ever. I hated her enough that I would have liked to "disappear" her by the end of the thing. When Sarah rescues a young girl in trouble, she inadvertently puts a powerful and dangerous man in her debt. He lives by his own ruthless code of honour, and according to him, this debt must be repaid.

I loved the ending. Right when I thought I had figured this one out, a big twist comes along that wasn't expected at all and it left me speechless. It was a big surprise. This one kept me on the edge of my seat. It is not a predictable read and I thought it was mind blowing and AMAZING! This one is tied in first place in my favorite shelf for this year. Crazy good! It was strictly a one time deal, a once in a lifetime offer. A deal that might change her life. A deal that would almost certainly change someone elses.I really enjoy thrillers that keep you guessing, that you can't put down and this book did not disappoint! I finished it within three evenings of reading! I just wanted to know what happened and wasn't going to stop reading until I found out... * Mojo Mums * Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and T.M. Logan for an arc in exchange for an honest review. Sarah is a young professor struggling to prove herself in a workplace controlled by the charming and manipulative Alan Hawthorne. A renowned scholar and television host, Hawthorne rakes in million-dollar grants for the university where Sarah works—so his inappropriate treatment of female colleagues behind closed doors has gone unchallenged for years. And Sarah is his newest target.

This is the second book that I’ve read by T M Logan, and he really is exceptionally good. Give this one a try, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

I got an arc from a publisher for this one and I agreed to be honest in my review. Sorry, but if you say "honest", you are going to get it.

Wow! This was a thrilling read, it literally called to me whenever I put it down. The characters were perfectly at ease in their skins, played their parts to perfection with a deftly constructed narrative. The plot itself presents a darker side of life, whilst demonstrating the mundane alongside it. The reader is taken on a whirlwind of twists and turns making it a truly tense and compelling read. Just brilliant, can't recommend it enough! It is not clear from the videos where the other officers are at this point. Mr Floyd is heard crying “I can’t breathe”. He repeats the same cry 16 times in less than five minutes. People in the crowd tell Mr Floyd to get into the police car and he replies “I can’t, I can’t move”. Screenwriter Sara Collins said: “I am so excited about this adaptation, which brings up big questions about power, consent and retribution in a dark academic setting. But what really draws me to it is the woman at its heart, who is suspended between two rotten alternatives with no way out. There are shades of Patricia Highsmith in her dilemma, with so much delicious potential for taking her on a journey that will stretch her moral code and sense of self. That’s exactly the kind of story I’m interested in writing and I look forward to working with Big Light to bring this one to the screen.” If only this novel lived up to my expectations. Having read T.M. Logan’s last novel, I was really looking forward to “29 Seconds” – however this novel just missed the mark as I felt like the storyline left something to be desired and on the whole felt like the plot was a bit farfetched. That said, I do enjoy T.M. Logan’s writing and will be on the lookout for his next release.

I like how nothing is quite straight forward. You think you know the way the story is going to go only for it to take a sharp turn into a different direction. The author has you routing for Sarah in her quest to get out of the hold her boss has on her. There is a bit of a #MeToo topic going on and it made me so angry and upset that predators like the one in the story very much exist still in today’s world. Either way the storyline will have you well and truly gripped. Seconds is a twisty and timely read about a woman who is given the opportunity to make anyone in her life permanently “disappear.” All she needs to do is make one 29 second phone call and someone will be gone forever. This was such a tense, engrossing and captivating story filled with twists and turns that truly played with your morals and sense of right and wrong. This and the time pressure really made this story. The pace and sense of danger was constant, accretive, and perpetuating. So much so I couldn’t put the book down and read into the wee hours to finish.Sarah Haywood is working hard to get a permanent position at Queen Anne University for two years. She gets top marks from her students, has a steady publication record, has helped launch a new program, and has even found leads for grant funding for their department. But all of her hard work won’t matter as long as Alan Hawthorne is in charge of the department. Given his TV fame, high grant funding, and social connections with the University bigwigs, no one goes anywhere without Alan’s approval. It’s not so easy in practice but when given the opportunity, Sarah must make an impossible choice. A detrimental choice. Consequences be damned. Hawthorne is becoming more dangerous in his advances towards Sarah, and she’s feeling trapped. That all changes when, while driving home, she helps a young child being kidnapped. The father of that child is a bit of a brigand, and he’s in her debt, offering to make all her “problems” disappear. Sarah’s only problem? You know the one. I’m usually able to go with the flow. Put my beliefs on hold as needed. But this one stretched my sense of reality too thin. I truly loved this author’s previous novel Lies. Sadly, this one just didn’t measure up for me.
