The pencil blender is available individually as is the full blender, but the latter is found in both sets of 76 (Tin and wooden box) Using a soft, wax based pencil is ideal for artists like me who like to layer extensively. A softer pencil allows for smoother layers and numerous applications for those who like to create highly detailed art or like smooth transitions. Although the Luminance pencils may not keep their point as long to create very fine lines, like the harder oil-based brands like the Faber Castell Polychromos pencils, keeping them sharp whilst using certain techniques will help you achieve the fine detail regardless. When looking at the 100 range as a whole, all colours (including the colour wheel family colours and neutrals) are shown in the bar chart below. The breakdown of these colours is as follows. Caran d’Ache added 24 colours to their lightfast range of 76 coloured pencils. It is therefore a range of 100 lightfast coloured pencils. Caran Dache Luminance pencils are vegan except for the following colours: 037, 129, 161, 171, 181, 729, 832 and 836.The expanded range previously had less than 4 pencils in the red, orange, green, and blue-violet colour families. These colours have expanded out to now have at least 4 pencils in each colour wheel colour family. The search bar above each column searches for information with in that column. For animal artists, the Luminance range provides a wide range of neutral tones. Incorporating a wide range of browns and greys which animal artists use regularly, they provide a useful selection of 'barely there' colour tints such as Buff Titanium (801) and Silver grey (002), through to the deeper tones like Sepia (407) and Payne's grey (508). Wow! I’ve been trying to do my own tri tone book using luminance but struggling so I for one am so happy to see this!

The chart above show the Luminance range has a total of 100 pencils, of which 18 are neutral colours, and 82 are colours that belong to colour wheel colour families. Compared to the previous range of 76, this is an increase of 3 neutral colours, and 21 colours that belong to the colour wheel colour families. Of the additional pencils, 17 have the highest lightfast rating of I, and 7 have a rating of II. Therefore, of the total 100 pencil range, 78 pencils have a lightfast rating of I, and 22 pencils have a lightfast rating of II.
