In 1969 the distillery stopped malting its own grain and the malting floors were turned into a museum of malt whisky. The glen scotia and tamadhu were good, but I felt were quite similar. This one being the most different would probably make it a good serious sipper, and I did prefer it to the Tamadhu, but it wasn't to my personal liking enough to be buying a full bottle. Tasting notes: On the nose cut hay and malted barley. On the palate, biscuity sweet, digestives and hobnobs. After opening up with a drop of water, a complex sweetness, like toffee came through - moreso than the tamadhu 12, which I felt was of a less complex sweetness but felt it was less complex than the Glen Scotia's salted caramel feel. Part of the Four Corners of Scotland series, this distillery exclusive was released to commemorate the opening of the distillery's new visitor centre in 2020. This single malt Scotch whisky was matured for 16 years, and released at a robust cask strength of 50.6% ABV. It wasn’t until 1881 that whisky-making restarted, when a group of Edinburgh investors, seeing the rise in blended whisky sales, came on board. Under the eye of MajorJames Grey the plant was rebuilt and expanded into its current form in 1890. The buildings have since been turned into a museum which contains a remarkable scale model of a working distillery built by SMD in 1925 for the British Empire Exhibition. Tried this alongside a tamadhu and a glen scotia dram, and this was probably the most "different" to what I've tasted in the past.Palate: Very fruity palate with a mix of stewed fruits, dessert wine, apple peels and honey. Becomes quite oaky late palate.
