The video processing in the Hisense U7QF is powered by the Hi-View Engine which helps with motion and scaling of images. We found the upscaling to be good with only the odd instance of ringing around fine lines in some test patterns, but this was not visible in the vast majority of HD content we viewed.

With its 20W speaker system, the A7G offers a soundstage that’s flat and not especially dynamic. Given its size, a decent soundbar is a must, but judged on its own merits it offers solid clarity with dialogue; a presentation that’s clear, crisp and pleasingly sharp but refrains from wondering into sibilant territory. In fact, it’s sometimes hard to even make out what’s going on. The desktop stand also looks more metallic than it actually is, and its ’open’ style minimises the impact the TV has on your decor.

In terms of price, a 50-inch TV is often considered a mid-range option. It provides a good balance between screen size and affordability, making it an attractive choice for many consumers who want a decent-sized display without breaking the bank. As a big-screen fitting for sports and movies, it also starts at a slightly cheaper asking price than the U7QF model it replaces. Another vintage year from Hisense and Roku The Rec.709 HD colour gamut results are very good indeed for an out of the box preset and DeltaE errors are well below the visible threshold of three. This level of accuracy for a mid-range TV is excellent with absolutely no issues visible within TV and film content. Colours appear natural with superb lifelike skin tones. Out of the box, the Hisense U7QF is impressive.

There’s also app-to-app pairing, which will allow you to control a TV app with your phone. For example, you can browse Netflix’s catalogue on your phone, and then tell it to play via the TV app. Can I listen to my smart TV with wireless headphones? The 55A7GQ avoids a complete picture quality wash-out on three fronts. First, its native 4K pictures are impressively sharp and crisp. This remains reasonably if not brilliantly intact when there’s motion in the frame, too, thanks to minimal judder and surprisingly little blurring and resolution loss if you call up the set’s decently effective Clear Motion setting. The Hisense U7QF has potential in the sound department, even if you’ll need some additional equipment to realize it.

Some models also offer additional features, such as Bluetooth connectivity for wireless audio connections, and smartphone and tablet connections. The top-left app on the home screen is Netflix, and it’s rather odd that it’s the only app whose position you can’t change. During setup, we were even presented with a prompt to watch Netflix, making it abundantly clear that the dominant TV streaming service had paid a premium to maintain pride of place on 2020 Hisense TVs. Smart features are provided by the fifth generation of Hisense’s home-grown VIDAA system. This has evolved into a pretty effective platform these days, combining a crisp, clean layout with good responsiveness and a solid set of video streaming apps that now includes long-term absentee Disney Plus. There’s still no sign of Apple TV+, though. Compared to the U7QF, the A7G is a downgrade in features. Where the U7Q had Full Array local dimming the A7G makes do without. It’s not a full house for HDR formats either, with the Hisense able to decode HDR10+ but not officially certified for it. We didn’t have any issues at all with VIDAA which stands up against other providers such as Android.A cookie set by YouTube to measure bandwidth that determines whether the user gets the new or old player interface. On the Hisense 55U7QF, the best out of the box present was Cinema Night with gamma set to BT.1886 and all noise reduction and other image manipulation features switched off. Ultra Smooth Motion and Clear motion were also switched off and the Local Dimming was left at default in Cinema Night mode. Let’s cut to the chase: the 55A7GQ’s picture quality turns out to be hugely disappointing, especially as it arrives amid a generally upward trajectory for Hisense TVs.
