About this deal

Several older studies have found that lion’s mane extract can prevent the growth of H. pylori in a test tube, but no studies have tested whether the extract has the same effects inside the stomach ( 19, 20).

To get both hericenones and erinacines for maximum benefits combine Lions mane mycelium capsules with our Lions mane fruiting body capsules. Research was carried out on this mushroom powder using rats in 2005, and the findings unearthed several medicinal substances present in Hericium Erinaceus. The substances included palmitic acid, threitol and D-arabinitol. A study of these substances found them to be responsible for reducing blood sugar and regulating lipid levels in the blood. Evidence also suggested this mushroom has a wide range of antioxidants. The capsules don’t contain dried mushroom powder like many others, but rather a concentrated extract with high levels of beta glucans (30%) - a soluble fibre that boosts the immune system and supports gut health - and hericenones and erinacines, which stimulate nerve growth factor (NGF) in the brain and give lion’s mane its cognitive enhancing properties.

Our brand new high-strength capsules have been specifically developed for both cognitive and immune support. The immune-boosting effects of lion’s mane mushrooms are very promising, but this area of research is still developing. Summary Up to one-third of people living in developed countries experience symptoms of anxiety and depression ( 8, 9). While many studies on lion’s mane are conducted on rats and mice, there are a number of clinical studies on humans. The usual dose is between 0.5-3g per of dried lion’s mane powder per day.

To put it another way, most mycelium on grain products contain no more than 40% mycelium content, while the rest is ground up grain that was used as the growing substrate. At the same time, mycelium contains little-to-no Beta-Glucans, so you are effectively missing out on one of the crucial actives found in Lions Mane mushroom. A high total polysaccharide count is a strong indicator that a Lions Mane extract is tainted with inactive starches. This occurs because manufacturers of myceliated biomass 'mushrooms' do not separate the mycelium from the grain, so what you end up with is a product that contains 60-70% grain starch. Myceliated biomass products are most commonly produced and originate in the USA due to the very low cost of production. The companies producing and selling these kinds of products are often the source of the misinformation spread around about medicinal mushroom extracts such as Lions Mane mushroom. Unsurprisingly, these manufacturers are selling myceliated biomass products because they are inexpensive to produce - unlike growing and extracting authentic mushrooms, like they do in China. It's no coincidence that almost all of the extracts produced in the USA are all mycelium biomass instead of fruiting bodies. The appearance of Lions Mane mushroom products varies widely, especially with the vast amount of products available. A 2016 study of people with ulcerative colitis found that taking a mushroom supplement containing 14% lion’s mane extract significantly reduced symptoms and improved quality of life after 3 weeks ( 25). You’d be wise not to expect instant results with lion’s mane supplements. Clinical studies done with lion’s mane are typically done over at least two months of use. How much Lion’s Mane should you take?A higher extraction ratio past a certain point provides no additional benefits and in fact may be detrimental to the overall quality of an extract. The best dual-extract Lions Mane Mushroom products won't use more than an 8:1 extraction ratio. It is also important to note that extraction ratios do not mean that an extract is x times more concentrated than a 1:1 extract. This is not accurate. What the extraction ratio refers to is the amount of raw material used to produce the finished extract. Chronically high blood sugar levels eventually cause complications like kidney disease, nerve damage in the hands and feet, and vision loss. DIRTEA are a great brand that offers lots of great info and guides on using mushrooms. I’m a big fan of their products, particularly their dual-extracted powders.

Good quality extracts are produced in China - not the USA or Europe. The difference is that authentic, high-quality extracts from China will always be accompanied by valid testing reports, since virtually all of the certificates of analysis coming directly from these manufacturers are either adulterated, or entirely fabricated. Been on these for just over a week, not noticed a lot of difference, maybe bit less brain fog. Will continue with them UK-grown organic Lions Mane tincture, extracted by us at our lab on the farm in Somerset. We are the only organic certified medicinal mushroom producer currently in the UK. The total amount of polysaccharides should not exceed the Beta-Glucan content by more than 5%. The less the better. High levels of polysaccharides are a sign of adulteration, especially when the Beta-Glucan content is not stated. This is the most common tactic used to mislead people into buying low-quality extracts. The sign of this will be the taste and appearance - extracts with added starch tend to be sweet in taste, and a lot lighter in colour than high-quality dual extracts.

The type of extraction process that has been used will typically be reflected by how it looks. A high quality hot water Lions Mane extract will undergo 1:1 extraction and the powder will typically be light tan in colour (below, right). A 2020 study of people with mild Alzheimer’s disease found that supplementation with 1 gram of lion’s mane mushroom daily for 49 weeks significantly improved cognitive test scores compared with a placebo ( 7). In Japan, Hericium erinaceus or ‘yamabushiitake’ was named after the Yamabushi Buddhist Monks – wandering ascetics from the Shugendō spiritual tradition. Sometimes referred to as “nature’s nutrient for your neurons”, Lion’s Mane mushroom is most utilised for its cognitive benefits, supporting concentration, productivity, and mental clarity. It is also a great ally for your immune system and helps to support the growth of healthy gut flora. Mushrooms are all the rage right now. The enigmatic little organisms (which are more closely related to humans than plants) are proving to be very useful allies in a number of human domains - particularly when it comes to achieving good health.

Polysaccharides and beta glucans?

I use 2 of these in the morning alongside meditation as a holistic alternative to adhd medication and cannot recommend them enough. They improve concentration and cognitive function as well as reduce anxiety. 10/10 ! Also lovely small company 🙂 However, when the same study was repeated in patients with Crohn’s disease, the benefits were roughly the same as with placebo ( 26). Tinctures have a longer shelf life than capsules, provide a faster absorption rate, enable flexible dosage, and are easy to prepare by simply taking one squeeze of mushroom tincture twice per day either directly under the tongue or into a short glass of water. Fully Transparent & Short Supply Chain Additionally, animal studies have found that lion’s mane may help protect against Alzheimer’s disease, a degenerative brain disease that causes progressive memory loss.
