About this deal

Murder at the Villa Rosa by Elly Griffiths - An author escapes to a picturesque Italian gateway to get some inspiration, and meets some very interesting people, including a certain Jane Marple. This felt very different in style to the others in the collection as Miss Marple is a secondary character although I liked the overall idea. 3.5/5. Our servers are getting hit pretty hard right now. To continue shopping, enter the characters as they are shown A brand new collection of short stories featuring the Queen of Crime’s legendary detective Jane Marple, penned by twelve remarkable bestselling and acclaimed authors. This book will introduce the character to a whole new generation. Each author included in the new publication will reimagine Christie’s Marple through their own unique perspective while staying true to the hallmarks of a traditional mystery. The Murdering Sort" by Karen M. McNanus (1 star)-The story itself was okay, but what kept throwing me is the main character we follow, is a great great niece of Miss Marple and that her granddad is Miss Marple's, nephew, Raymond. The math wasn't mathing people. It just kept messing me up. Also this takes place in the 1970s and I just gave up how this was even making sense after a while. Because of the age discrepancy, I just couldn't get into the story. Also the reason behind the murder was stupid.

It's said that each author will re-imagine Miss Marple through their own unique perspective while also staying true to the conventions of the genre. It will be interesting to see how much leeway they've been given to alter the character and situations, given how traditional the original works were. The new collection of Miss Marple stories will be released simultaneously in the US and UK on September 13, 2022. That date coincides with the first day of “Agatha Christie Week”– the days she's honoured each year in celebration of her September 15th birthday. Miss Marple enjoys herself tremendously in New York in Miss Marple Takes Manhattan by Alyssa Cole, where the redoubtable spinster unravels the skullduggery taking place at a theatre adaptation of one of her nephew Raymond’s novels. In The Unravelling by Natalie Haynes, Miss Marple sorts through a sad tale of the fallout from men returning from war.I enjoyed the writing of each author, and I appreciated their creativity and their effort to pay an homage to one of my top favourite authors. I have always enjoyed Agatha Christie books as well as the many films and television series over the years. I have read and enjoyed all of her novels so it is pleasing to read other popular authors pay a huge compliment to her memory by writing a Miss Marple story themselves. This made fascinating reading and was very entertaining throughout, I particularly enjoyed the stories by Ruth Ware, Elly Griffiths and Kate Mosse.

All of them five stars. These three seemed to have a little more substance and depth than the others, no mean feat in a short story! The others ranged from 3 - 4 stars, with only one at 2.5 stars. This collection of twelve original short stories, all featuring Jane Marple, will introduce the character to a whole new generation. Each author reimagines Agatha Christie’s Marple through their own unique perspective while staying true to the hallmarks of a traditional mystery.Miss Marple: "I have recently come to believe that dim sum which I believe this style of food is called means touch of the heart." While Agatha Christie eventually grew tired of Hercule Poirot, describing him as ‘an egocentric creep’ and devising a deeply divisive ending for him, she retained her affection for the far more personable Miss Jane Marple. From her first appearance in The Tuesday Night Club, a short story published in 1927, through to her final appearance in the 1976 novel Sleeping Murder, Miss Marple solved a host of crimes over the course of 12 novels and 20 short stories, often while sitting in an armchair and knitting. By the time we get Karen McManus, our main protagonist was thrust in a YA story, which seemed so weird.
