Yes! The Firmware will need to be updated before you begin using your controller. Please follow the link below for detailed instructions on updating the firmware. The MPC Beats Installer will automatically open. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.Press and hold the SHIFT and PROG SELECT buttons on the MPK mini Plus. While holding these buttons, connect the other end of your USB cable to the MPK mini Plus. The MPK mini Plus should power on and the current firmware version will be shown on the display. Akai needs slow down with new releases and focus on improving the integration between the software and hardware. This is a solid midi controller. I don't think there is any competition for this keyboard currently (that also fits my desk). That’s a pretty comprehensive spec list, and one that would seem to put the MPK Mini Plus in direct competition with Arturia’s popular KeyStep 37 controller. Had the basic mini version before this, and upgraded to the plus as the only thing that really bothered me in the mini that the is only 2 octaves.
Take the USB cable for your MPK mini Plus and connect it to your computer, but do not connect the MPK mini Plus yet - we'll do this in the next step.
