The Xiaomi 12T Pro offers a whopping 200MP main camera, but how does this perform, and do the other cameras deliver? Joshua Waller puts it through its paces. The TG-6 adds a new screen and Underwater Microscope mode to its predecessor’s rugged build and handy macro modes. So is it our new favourite waterproof camera? I took it to the beach to find out. My kids and I discovered a stream filled with salmon. I knew it was the perfect chance to try out the TG-6 underwater. In the meantime, this Olympus tough camera has the fastest, if not optically best, zoom lens out of all tough camera models from Olympus, Fuji, Nikon, Panasonic and Pentax. (I'm not sure if Sony or Canon still makes a tough camera.) While the later models in this TG series, I believe 4-5-6, perhaps 3, are the only tough cameras that shoot raw. With people increasingly happy to rely on their smartphone for everyday snaps these days, if you see a point-and-shoot compact at all it’s likely to be one of two things: an instant camera that outputs Polaroid-style prints, or, as with the new Olympus TG-6, a toughened camera that you’d dare to use in scenarios where you wouldn’t otherwise risk your handset. In other words, there needs to be a good reason for its existence.While the image quality from the TG-6 is fine, modern smartphones will surpass it in most situations, though once downsized to social media resolutions, it's less noticeable. But, remember, your phone isn't exactly rugged. While out-of-camera JPEGs have pleasant colors *, the lens just isn't very sharp and too much noise reduction is applied. Turning down the 'noise filter' option helps a bit, but if you're up to the challenge of processing the results, shooting Raw is the way to get the most out of the TG-6. The main rear control is a four-way directional pad, with the OK button at its center. It's joined by Info, Menu, Play, and Record buttons and a flat dial to set the camera's mode. If you want to go outside full Auto, your best bet is to use Program and adjust exposure using the top dial for many scenes.
You can change the magnification level to 1x, 2x or 4x by pressing the arrow pad Right button. Up to 44.4x (35 mm equivalent: 28x) is possible when using the zoom simultaneously. I have this camera. It is great. The only negative, and it is a big one, is that the app on Android is terrible and rarely connects (at least one an LG V30). Don’t forget that a camera only has to be so good and then the rest is up to you. The world’s greatest camera isn’t much good in the hands of a person that knows nothing about light, moment, or composition. Look for a camera that meets your general needs, then up your game as a photographer.With the TG-6, you can get insanely close and discover the mystery and beauty in the fine details of everyday objects.
