About this deal

Faber Members have access to live and online events, special editions and book promotions, and articles and quizzes through our weekly e-newsletter. Then her friend and fellow explorer, Ethan Rook, with the Ocean Squid Explorers Club, arrives. His father has brought a magical cuff that can control the bone-eating vulture threatening Stella. One of those casually erudite children’s books that does not treat children as kiddywinks, The Murderer’s Ape follows the saga of Sally Jones – a mechanically gifted seafarer who happens to be an ape – and her attempts to clear the name of her human friend, falsely accused of murder. Despite the beautiful illustrations, we are near the top of the age range here: parents might be asked to explain why a maharajah might have concubines, and why a sensible woman might be in love with someone who leaves her with bruises.

When Stella and three other junior explorers get separated from their expedition can they cross the frozen wilderness and live to tell the tale? I just love these series! The first book was already a smasher and this one didn't disappoint either. The characters are really the strongest point here. Once again we follow a journey, which is always exciting in this universe! The mentioned wonderful, magical food shows off the author's creativity well. It must have taken a lot to invent all of those things. This book has so many twists and turns from this point I won't try to summarize them all. Read and enjoy the ride, literally! Polar bears are fierce, solitary and both terrifying and enthralling in equal measure. They capture the imagination like no other animal. I really enjoyed the book. I liked the different characters within the book and their different personalities. Stella’s adoptive father, Felix, is a member of The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club, and Stella has always wanted to be an explorer as well. Technically girls aren’t allowed to join The Club, but when the chance arises to join Felix, Stella is determined to prove she can be as good an explorer as anyone.

I absolutely loved this book and the others. I think they're really imaginative and amazing. It's my favourite book! Unfortunately, now i cant find a book that's nearly as good as this. Now she happily dwells in an entirely make-believe world of blood, death, madness, murder and mayhem. The doctors have advised that it is best not to disturb her, for she appears to be happy there. She soon finds herself on an expedition to find the coldest part of the Icelands. But it doesn’t go to plan, as she and her fellow junior adventurers get separated from the group and have to find their way across the Icelands together. While the Icelands is full of incredible places and creatures to discover, it’s equally full of danger. It’s a great pity that we all spend so much time trying to be exactly the same when, in fact, we should be celebrating those things that make us different and uniquely ourselves.“Join Stella Starflake Pearl and her three fellow explorers as they trek across the snowy Icelands and come face-to-face with frost fairies, snow queens, outlaw hideouts, unicorns, pygmy dinosaurs and carnivorous cabbages . . . I enjoyed the first installment immensely (Krysta did not, and you can read her review here), and my assessment of The Forbidden Expedition is nearly the same. The premises are actually somewhat similar, in that protagonist Stella and company go on a journey in icy unexplored territory that many people think they should not go on because it’s too dangerous. This book, however, introduces witches, which were not prominent in book one. Oh, my dear one, never make decisions out of a place of fear. Nothing good ever comes from that, trust me. Our bonds of love and friendship with other people are not always as simple or as straightforward as we would like them to be, but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth it, warts and all. We must fight for our loved ones with everything that we have and, yes, sometimes that means pushing through the fear of being rejected, or looking foolish, or getting hurt, or having our hearts broken.“ Not one to learn from past experience, Alex started the Legal Practice Course in London. There she met some great people and had a lot of fun messing about during lessons that were clearly meant to be extremely solemn affairs. Thankfully, she dropped out just before the point where all students must submit to the personality-removing process that is a compulsory part of being an esteemed member of the legal profession.
