About this deal

Sarah Millican is one of those people whose fame will never change her. She's had too much "normal" in her life to succumb to snobbery and egotism. By normal, I mean the same struggles with relationships, making friends, being bullied, her weight, etc. that the rest of us deal with in our lives. She's put in the time and sweat in normal jobs while she worked hard to develop her career, and I think she's a huge success. She's one of my favorite comedians, and it was interesting to get to know her, especially since she reads her autobiography herself. In May 2015, it was announced that Millican would be made the eighth "curator" of The Museum of Curiosity, co-presenting the eighth series of the BBC Radio 4 comedy series. [28] It helps of course if you like the person who you are reading and it's hard not to like Millican. It also helps to not mind a lot of graphic stuff about periods and masturbation - so think twice about buying this one for a reader of delicate disposition. A consummate live performer, Sarah first started performing stand-up comedy in 2004, at the relatively late age 29, following an earlier career as a civil servant. The following year she was runner-up in both the Funny Women and So You Think You're Funny awards, as well as the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2006.

Informative and incredibly funny (and a little bit gross heehee!) So I already know where this book is coming from, miles away. How to be Champion has landed itself firmly on the Champion shelf. It's not the best, the worst, the most ahreet (alright but a bit more Yorkshire) or the least not bad. It's Champion. Aye. There are few role models in the comedy world for women. Sarah Millican is a battle-hardened Everywoman who is not afraid (or if she is, she's tough enough to live with the embarrassment) to share her faults, her farts and her frailties. Pictures of bad hairdos and weight gains, discussions about her IBS - if only we could all feel comfortable enough to make light of the less glamorous parts of ourselves and laugh at them. I have watched Sarah Millican on a few different TV shows and one of her DVD's and found her quite funny. I also think she projects the fact she is a down to earth, normal person with everyday challenges both at work, with family and life. So as I find her quite relatable I wanted to read the blurb of this book which of course mentions different trials and tribulations from being of school age onward. In December 2011, she voiced three Viz "Comedy Blaps" alongside Steve Coogan, Simon Greenall and Gavin Webster for Channel 4. [22] That said, I guess it seems odd that I rated it 3 stars; it's truly 3.5 rounded down because I didn't reach the same level of enjoyment and laughter that I do from her actual stand-up routines. Her life hasn't been one long joke. Perfectly enjoyable audio book, but not to the point that I'm going to start recommending it to everyone I know--just to people who like bios and comedy. Some really good stuff, and some bits that I didn't enjoy quite as much. But all told, I thought Sarah Millican came across completely as herself - warm, witty, wise and frequently very rude.

After her husband left her unexpectedly in 2004, [37] Millican found solace in attending writing workshops in local theatres, such as at Newcastle's Live Theatre and the Customs House in South Shields. Jokes about her failed marriage initially formed the majority of Millican's comedy material. [38] Part autobiography, part self help, part confession, part celebration of being a common-or-garden woman, part collection of synonyms for nunny, Sarah Millican's debut book delves into her super normal life with daft stories, funny tales and proper advice on how to get past life's blips - like being good at school but not good at friends, the excitement of IBS and how to blossom post divorce. The Bubble, a brand-new comedy news quiz on BBC Two". BBC. 2 February 2010. Archived from the original on 19 February 2010 . Retrieved 20 February 2010. I have seen Sarah Millican live and find her extremely funny. I like her style of humour and down to earth attitude. When I saw this for a bargain 99p, I thought what could go wrong.
