About this deal

With the Aware eartips and the matching EQ mode turned on in the app, the sonic experience is solid—the open design leads to a boosted bass response, and outside noise is audible (though not to the extent as with a more sophisticated mode that relies on ambient mics to amplify the signal). The app also lets you adjust the on-ear control layout, tweak the in-ear sidetone (how much you can hear your own voice on calls), and access a three-band EQ. Aside from its reliance on three bands instead of the usual five, the EQ delivers weak results. Boosting the bass fader to its maximum level, for example, only subtly increases the low-end and causes the digital signal processing (DSP) to step in. Here, the DSP compresses the signal and affects the maximum volume output. It's a little baffling that an audio powerhouse like Sennheiser has among the worst in-app EQs we’ve tested. Partner these high-end Sennheiser headphones with a high-quality outboard DAC, such as the Chord Mojo and use good quality files and you'll hear just why the IE 900 justify their premium price tag. The Sennheiser Smart Control app (available for Android and iOS) is a requirement because you need to tune the earphones via the EQ depending on which eartips you choose; the Focus EQ mode is for the closed eartips and Aware EQ mode is for the open ones.

Sennheiser Sport True Wireless - Review 2022 - PCMag UK

The Sennheiser SPORT True Wireless buds have 55 mAh lithium-ion rechargeable batteries with an operating time of up to nine hours – not bad! Better still, since there is no ANC, there is no 'secondary battery time' for when it's turned on; you get 9 hours out of the buds, no matter what. Rated to international standard IP54, the Sennheiser Sport True Wireless earphones are resistant to dust, rain and sweat, making them ideal for workouts. Interchangeable fins and earbuds ensure a secure fit, letting you concentrate on the workout, without worrying about the earphones falling out.As well as supporting Bluetooth 4.2 apt-X for high quality wireless audio, they also support apt-X Low Latency, which means you shouldn't experience any lip-syncing issues when watching videos – that is, if you have a compatible display like the Samsung Galaxy S9. In addition to the above, the app comes with an equalizer that lets you control the bass, mid, and treble with sliders, and although it doesn’t get much more in depth than that, it does come with 6 presets, plus the ability to save your own.

Each bud has a touch panel on the outside and you can customise four controls on each side – one, two or three taps, or hold. You can control the volume, activate your phone’s smart assistant and turn the buds off using the panel, as well as the usual play/pause and skip. The controls were pretty easy to use on the move, though I often set off the one-touch play/pause control by accident when taking the buds in and out. You can also turn off the controls if this becomes an annoyance. They're rich and gloriously full-bodied but still maintain clarity, particularly in the midrange. It gives them a superb tonal balance alongside their depth of bass, which will reward listeners of all stripes. But when it comes to overall performance, these earbuds have zero latency across the board when watching movies or videos on your phone whether you’re using an iPhone or an android devices… and when it comes to audio codecs, the Sport have support for SBC, AAC, and APTX. The same as the entry level CX’s. But for comparison sake Sennheiser’s more premium earbuds have support for SBC, AAC, APTX and APTX adaptive. But if you want to take advantage of APTX, you do have to be an android user. But as a newcomer, these buds require conditioning in specific areas. Comfort levels are hit or miss, depending on your pain threshold, and some of the sound features don’t exactly operate the way Sennheiser intended. Do Sennheiser Sport have noise cancellation?

The best wireless in-ear headphones at this level, though, just have the edge as far as timing and balance are concerned. Compared to a pair of Sony WF-1000Xs for example, the CX Sports sound a little less enthusiastic and a little less sure of themselves. It’s not a huge gap by any means, but enough to rob the Sennheisers of a fifth star. Verdict To get them connected to your phone is easy: they will be in pairing mode when you first put them in, look in your phone’s Bluetooth menu and tap to connect. All the controls, including a mic are built into a rectangular box that sits along the cable a few centimetres beneath the right earpiece. They are fairly comfortable to wear for extended use too, though after a couple of hours I did start to feel some unwelcome pressure around where the wing sits in the ear. If you are going to wear them for the duration of the nine-hour battery life I’d take the wings off when you weren’t exercising. Sound Quality Wanting to test them out on something more treble-y, we listened to M7 by Seba & Ulrich Schnauss. Clattering synths and sonorous chimes had a brilliant level of clarity, with a sweet tone throughout.
