About this deal

Also use Turbo Hold to set the button to continually activate Turbo without having to hold the button down. If the Split Pad Pro looks too bulky for you but you're still interested in its features, the newer Split Pad Compact for Hori is an excellent choice.

Why would anyone use these over the standard Split Pads? These seem like they’d be less comfortable. The controller is missing a few features found in Joy-Con controllers. It doesn't offer rumble, motion controls, NFC support, or the IR camera. The Split Pad is powered by the Switch console itself, which means it doesn't work when detached from the tablet. The Split Pad Compact is strictly for handheld play, but that's really not a criticism. It does what it sets out to do extremely well. Why this D&D actual play series featuring the voices of Geralt and FF16's Clive is going to be the next big thing

This Switch grip offers a feature the others on this list don't: extended battery life. Fitted with a built-in 10,000mAh internal battery, Newdery's grip roughly doubles the battery life while playing in handheld mode. It's only compatible with the regular Nintendo Switch, though. The Snap Grip is the smallest of the three and has a unique ridged design. The rounded Plus Grip is aimed at those who want some added bulk. Meanwhile, the Trigger Grip mimics the feel of a conventional controller, with a contoured design that probably suits most Switch users. Essentially, you're getting three different grips in one, so chances are at least one of them will be a great fit for you. Other big issue for me is the feel of the buttons. The ABXY buttons are too mushy and imprecise feeling. The Joy Cons are small but feel crisp and precise, and the Pros feel again like an Xbox controller with a crisp response and springy rebound. In case you missed it, these Joy-Con-like controllers are a follow-up to Hori's Switch Split Pad Pro, and are officially releasing here in the west as the Switch Split Pad Compact. They'll be available here in two different colours, but over in Japan there are four - and now even more options to choose from!

Continuing on the theme of things the Split Pad Compact doesn’t offer, you won’t find HD rumble (or standard definition rumble, for that matter), an NFC reader, an IR camera (though when does the Joy-Con really ever use that anyway), or a gyro sensor. Rumble is convenient to have, sure, but the gyro sensor can be critical for certain games. For instance, you’ll never beat all of the shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild without that gyro, and aiming arrows may prove more difficult. I don't really have much need of them, have a Split Pad Pro and two and a half sets of Joycons (have an extra right one) with no one to really play with anyway, but that Pikachu and Mimikyu one is fairly tempting. Since the grip has a power bank inside, it is heavier than the other grips on this list. The bulkiness that it adds works in its favor when it comes to ergonomics, though. The increased depth combined with rounded handles makes the Switch more comfortable to hold for longer play sessions. As the main draw here is extended playtime, that's certainly a good thing. As with Satisfye's previous model, the ZenGrip Pro is extremely lightweight--it doesn't make the console feel any heavier (in fact, because it makes holding the Switch so much easier, it almost feels lighter). The bottom of the grip has two hooks for additional console support, and they also allow the Switch to stand securely upright on its own, with enough room for the charging cable to run underneath.
