About this deal

Summer Sacrifice is the 41st Sunshine Christo project. It parallels the first Sunshine Christo project, ‘Summer Vacation’. Instead of happy upbeat project, it’s a introspective sacrifice of suffering. The project was made to show off the versatility while also trying to convey the loss of one’s self when they become obsessed with something. On a small Island the inhabitants follow the ritual of the “Taking”, which happens once a month. During the Taking the souls of teenagers are taken by the Goddess so as to stop the spread of evil through sacrifice. Jamie Tuff, the protagonist survives her taking. She thinks that she is safe to live a long and happy life only to find that her soul starts to ‘wander’ into other people’s bodies, and through the ‘wandering’ she discovers that the small island she calls home harbours a deadly secret. Oak has a long history of folklore throughout Europe and was sacred to many people, including the ancient Greeks, the Norse and the Celts. Is it even a party if there’s not a punch-up? Not when it comes to solstices! A prevailing theme of solstice celebrations is the eternal battle between light and darkness as the wheel of the year turns. The Oak and Holly Kings are relatively modern additions to this archetype and during summer solstice the Holly King wins. He reigns over the dark half of the year while the Oak King recovers, winning the rematch at the winter solstice. It is not known why there is this link but there are many theories, from yews being planted over the graves of plague victims to protect and purify the dead, to the more mundane in that yews could be planted in churchyards as it was one of the only places that cattle did not have access and therefore would not be poisoned by eating the leaves.

It is known by the druids as the Goddess Tree and the Lady of the Woods and is associated with light, new beginnings, love and fertility. It was a tree of enchantment with the power to protect against evil spirits and the evil eye. The ancient Chinese participated in a ceremony on the summer solstice to honor the earth, femininity and the force known as yin. It complemented the winter solstice ritual, which was devoted to the heavens, masculinity and yang. Ancient Northern and Central European Tribes Many Germanic, Slavic and Celtic pagans welcomed summer with bonfires, a tradition that is still enjoyed in Germany, Austria, Estonia and other countries. Some ancient tribes practiced a ritual in which couples would jump through the flames to predict how high that year’s crops would grow. Vikings The story follows Jamie Tuff as she discovers the truth behind the happenings at the island as well as discovers the truth of her powers. Jamie and her friends set out to save the souls that have been taken. The story is well written and has a simple plot that will keep the reader entertained. The book is more for children in the teens and such and it will appeal to their idea of fantasy and magic. With this piece, once I got the basic areas done, I then spent time trying to find ways to describe and insinuate the various textures and details with the paint—be it the grooved and weathered bone or the fiddly layers inside the sinus cavities. Simultaneously, I worked to bring more of the sun’s colors into the skull itself.

Academic essays are undoubtedly a very important part of learning and if you… Now, she must save her little world from a fate worse than— well, worse than what the Goddess has already done to it. Our lives have been so closely linked with trees since prehistoric times, they've been the subjects of legends, folklore and mythology. Three hundred years ago, the Great Goddess sent a storm to destroy mankind. She nearly succeeded. One Island survived.

Another feature of this book that I just have to praise is the illustrations. They are amazing (some are downright creepy!) and they add that little extra to each chapter and the atmosphere of the scenes. I noticed that it was Holly Hinton herself who drew these illustrations…she is one talented lady! The Woodland Trust is a charity registered in England and Wales (No. 294344) and in Scotland (No. SC038885). A non-profit-making company limited by guarantee. Registered in England No. 1982873.One of the book's strong points is the world-building, despite being dystopian, the world is quite colourful and vibrant in parts and it has its fun moments. The illustrations are really good too, though some of them didn't really add much. Midsommar, for example, is more than just a cult horror movie, it was a national holiday marking the solstice in Norway up until 1771 and is still celebrated in Sweden and Finland today.

These days, the Goddess stops the spread of evil by sacrificing the Island’s rotten teenage souls. Or so the story goes... writer 24 on Ethel Reed: The Art Nouveau Artist You Don’t Know Every writer at writer 24 is ready to help you with your academic assignments at any moment. Regardless of deadlines, complexity, size and many others…This is only my second experiment with gouache, but I’m finding I like it more each time I use it. The speed is extremely appealing to me and I find that the shifts in thinking area pleasant change of pace. I’m also a fan of the fact that gouache paintings are insanely easy to scan and retouch. I’m still not ready to complete a professional assignment in gouache yet, but I think I’m getting closer. What I’m still unclear on is the level of forgiveness the medium has for revision and reworking (which is something that has been known to happen with my assignments), and so I’m going to build that into my next piece. I’ll also be trying yet another surface (Strathmore 500 Series Bristol Plate Finish) to see how the paint reacts and to see what impact that might have on how I work. I loved the setting. Pity Me School reminded me of an evil Hogwarts and I found a lot of the magical side of the story had touches of Harry Potter about it (which can only be a good thing!) The way in which the Grand Hall was described had me picturing Hogwarts & the caped teachers sitting at the front on a stage. Then there’s the ‘Pity Me Perfects’ who do all of the teachers spying for them and appear where you’d least expect them.

It's the only British plant to be named after the month in which it flowers. The appearance of its blossom was the herald of the end of winter and the beginning of summer and the saying ‘Ne’er cast a clout till May is out’ almost certainly refers to the opening of the flowers, not the end of the month. All willows were seen as trees of celebration in biblical times but this has changed over time and now willows are often associated with sadness and mourning. I know I usually make similar requests for Illusion games, but that goes doubly so for this one. Games from Miconisomi feel like got heart put into them, there is a case that such a feeling is missing from the majority of Illusion games. It has also long been heralded as a powerful time for protective charms and divination. So much so that on no other night could a bowl of water and some pieces of paper tell you your true love's initials, or could bunches of dandelions bless your house with more than damp bedsheets. Hawthorn was a powerful supernatural force for good or evil and has been associated with sacrifice and protection.
